Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s upcoming Duos Mode, including the new game mode’s release date and more.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s highly anticipated Duos Mode has finally been officially revealed by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. Although Nightreign was developed with three-player co-op in mind, the lack of a Duos Mode was still something that hampered the game’s reception among players. Duos have always been a part of most FromSoftware Souls games. Even Elden Ring allowed for 2-player co-op.
As such, its absence from Nightreign, which is marketed as a co-op-focused game, was quite surprising. However, shortly after the game’s release, FromSoftware confirmed they are working on a dedicated Duos Mode for the game. And recently, the studio finally unveiled the new game mode and its release date.

When Is Duos Mode Coming To Elden Ring Nightreign?

The Duos Mode, i.e., Two-Player Mode for Elden Ring Nightreign, is scheduled to be released on July 30, 2025. The Duos Mode is releasing at the same time as the new weekly reset for the Everdark Sovereign. Starting July 30, 2025, Nightreign will receive new bosses in the form of Everdark (Enhanced) Libra, Gladius, Caligo, and Maris.
These bosses will be rolled out on a weekly basis, akin to Everdark Adel, Gnoster, and Fulghor. With the Duos Mode, it’s also the best time for new players to jump into the game. Much like the Solo Mode, Duos will feature reduced enemy and boss HP as well as poise to accommodate for one less player.
While FromSoftware has not revealed details regarding the balancing for Duos Mode, it is expected to be somewhat similar to the Solo Mode. What remains to be seen is how the Rune economy is balanced for two players. In the current version of Nightreign, the Rune distribution is somewhat unbalanced in the Solo Mode. As such, for some players, going through the game in single-player is significantly easier than doing the same in co-op.
With the Duos Mode, FromSoftware will have to balance the Rune acquisition to retain the game’s challenge, while also not taking away from its faster-paced progression.
How To Access the Duos Mode in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Once the Duos Mode is released, it will be accessible via the Expeditions menu. You essentially need to go to the Matchmaking Settings and under the Expedition Type, select Two-Player (Duos Mode). Do note that, much like the three-player co-op mode, Duos will allow you to pair up with random players. However, it’s best used to pair up with a friend, and for random matchmaking, we recommend sticking with the three-player mode.
