Everything you need to know about the Everdark Tricephalos in Elden Ring Nightreign, its attack up buffs, and one-shot combos.

As the capstone of the Everdark Sovereign Expeditions (for now at least), Everdark Tricephalos does not disappoint. In fact, the boss is easily the best Everdark Sovereign Nightlord FromSoftware has released thus far, offering spectacle and challenge in equal amounts.
However, while the boss is incredibly fun to fight, be it in solo or in co-op, it does have a “gimmick” that is quite difficult to understand. Suffice it to say, this very gimmick is the reason why some players aren’t enjoying the new Nightlord and find it unfair. Unfortunately, unlike Everdark Augur or Everdark Equilibrious Beast, Tricephalos’ boss fight gimmick isn’t that obvious.
During the second phase of the boss fight, Tricephalos gets a massive attack up buff, which essentially allows it to one-shot any Nightfarer (even a Level 15 Raider). However, the buff isn’t applied randomly and has a dedicated telegraph to it. Here’s everything you need to know about Everdark Tricephalos’ attack up buff in Elden Ring Nightreign, and how to counter it.
Everdark Tricephalos’ Attack Up Buff, Explained

Structurally, Everdark Tricephalos, i.e., Gladius, Beast of Night, is very similar to its regular counterpart, at least in the first phase. However, the differences arise in the second phase, where it gains substantial poise and damage buffs. Furthermore, it is in this phase that Gladius can go into a stance where, if you hit him, he gains attack up stacks for every hit that lands.
The stacks last for a full 20 seconds, and during this “buffed state,” Gladius’s every single attack has the potential to one-shot Nightfarers. We tested the damage of this buff with 3 attack up stacks. And to our surprise, it was enough to one-shot a Level 15 Raider, with 3 physical damage negation passives, as well as the blessings from the Rotted Woods, in solo mode.
Suffice it to say, this buff can also one-shot you in multiplayer as well. That said, you might be thinking that the counter to this is fairly easy – you just don’t have to hit the boss. However, Gladius can go into this stance without any telegraph, which makes it incredibly difficult to identify. Furthermore, when Gladius goes into the buffed stance, he also starts moving sideways to the Nightfarers. And this motion can be easily mistaken by players as a “punish window.”
In addition to that, Gladius can go into this stance in both combined and split forms. The only consistent way to predict this stance is that Gladius will always do two chain sweep attacks before staring at one of the Nightfares while slowly moving sideways. This is your tell that you should not hit the boss and risk buffing it.
Can You Defeat Everdark Tricephalos In the Buffed Stance?
Absolutely. You can easily defeat Tricephalos in its buffed state. The buffs only apply to the boss’s attack damage (both physical and affinity). It doesn’t affect Gladius’s defenses. You can still apply a defense down debuff on the boss while it has attack up stacks active. However, to do so, you will need Holy weapons and affinity attack up passives.
