The Erdtree Avatar is a field boss in Elden Ring Nightreign that can also appear in the Rotted Woods Shifting Earth Event. The boss appears frequently in Limveld and uses AoE attacks, holy magic, and delayed strikes to punish unprepared parties of Nightfarers. This guide will focus on arming you with insight into an Erdtree Avatar’s weaknesses, attack patterns, and the best tactics to bring it down quickly.

Overview of the Erdtree Avatar in Elden Ring Nightreign

The Erdtree Avatar resembles a gnarled tree that has sprouted legs and a winged staff to keep you off its lawn. It is a particularly challenging field boss to encounter because of a large health pool, powerful attacks, and a tricky moveset.

Ideally, you want to bring down a field boss as quickly as possible, but the Erdtree Avatar demands a little more caution. To have a fair chance of beating it without suffering losses, attack the Erdtree Avatar once your party has reached at least level 8. Even then, several of the boss’ attacks are capable of “one-shotting” a Nightfarer.

Weaknesses of Erdtree Avatar

The Erdtree Avatar is most vulnerable to fire damage dealt through weapons, abilities, or spells. Status effects like Frostbite, Scarlet Rot, and Poison are also effective against it. Using holy damage and bleed effects against this boss is futile since it resists them. The boss’ slow speed is another weakness a party of three can take advantage of.

When it aggros onto a player, the other two can attack it from behind in relative safety, while the baiting player can remain on the defensive. As soon as it turns around to face the flankers, the initially distracting player can attack it from behind.

Tips To Easily Defeat Erdtree Avatar

Stay behind the boss to avoid most attacks, watching out for AoE abilities.
The Erdtree Slam is the most powerful ability at the boss’ disposal. It grips the staff in both hands and raises it high before slamming it into the ground. This creates a large holy explosion that will damage players ahead of it and to its side. Roll as the staff descends or sprint away when the move begins.
- The move is followed by holy magic missiles forming around the boss and shooting at nearby players. Begin rolling or sprinting to the side as soon as the missiles complete forming and start launching.
The Erdtree Avatar jumps into the air and slams back into the ground, dealing Holy damage in a large area around it. Jump or roll as it lands to dodge the attack.

When it raises a foot and slams it on the ground, the attack is delayed. If you roll too early, it will change direction and connect. Dodge as soon as its descent begins. Rolling away from the boss will save you from the attack, but miss an opportunity for counterattacking.
