Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s Deep of Night mode, its requirements, and how to start it.

Deep of Night, the highly anticipated new mode for Elden Ring Nightreign, is now available for all players. The new mode is essentially a revamped version of the standard Expeditions, albeit with new “ranked” elements. With Deep of Night, FromSoftware basically addressed the biggest issue with Nightreign, i.e., lack of randomization.
In Deep of Night, you don’t get to choose your target Nightlord. Instead, the game gives you a randomly selected Nightlord to work towards, while also adding more randomized elements within the overworld of Limveld. Furthermore, the mode also comes with its own unique loot as well as Relics, i.e., Depth Relics.
However, much like the Everdark Sovereigns, the Deep of Night mode does have a few prerequisites. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s Deep of Night mode, and how to start it.

Requirements for Deep of Night in Elden Ring Nightreign

Before you can start Deep of Night, you need to make sure that you meet the following prerequisites:
- Completed at least 4 Expeditions.
- Defeated the final boss, Heolstor the Nightlord.
- Completed at least one Everdark Sovereign (optional).
While the requirements are to finish just 4 Expeditions, which is the bare minimum for unlocking Heolstor, we do recommend completing all 8 Expeditions. Deep of Night is an incredibly challenging mode, not only in terms of the Nightlord battles, but also in the buildup to it.
Having completed all the Expeditions will give you a good idea of all the Nightlords. Furthermore, some of the Nightlord Relics are incredibly useful for builds that you’ll be using for Deep of Night. We also recommend completing a few Everdark Sovereigns.
Do note that once you progress past Depth 2, you will see Everdark Sovereign bosses as targets. Furthermore, in Depth 3 and 4, Expeditions often don’t disclose the Nightlords until you reach Day 3.

How To Start Deep of Night in Elden Ring Nightreign

To start Deep of Night, simply follow these steps:
- Make sure you meet the prerequisites for the Deep of Night mode.
- Head to the Expeditions board in the Roundtable Hold.
- Select Deep of Night at the bottom of the Expeditions list.
Do note that if you have any active Shifting Earth event, it won’t affect Deep of Night Expeditions. Furthermore, completing Deep of Night won’t progress Shifting Earths either. You can have Shifting Earth active for regular Expeditions, and still progress through the Deep of Night. Lastly, much like the Everdark Sovereigns, Deep of Night requires a persistent internet connection. You cannot play Deep of Night in the game’s offline mode.
