Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s newest Everdark Sovereign, Tricephalos, and whether it’s overtuned or not.

Everdark Sovereign Nightlords have been a great addition to Elden Ring Nightreign’s post-launch roadmap. Not only did the boss receive a substantial buff in terms of its raw stats, but Gladius also gets a completely overhauled moveset, making it even more menacing. Furthermore, the boss also gets a new AOE combo, which is lifted right out of Heolstor’s movesets.
However, like any other Everdark Sovereign Nightlord, Gladius is also getting a polarized reaction from players. While most players did end up enjoying the added challenge and “gimmick” of the boss fight, others are calling the new Nightlord “overtuned.”
However, is Everdark Tricephalos really an overtuned Nightlord boss that should get nerfed in future updates? Or is it perfectly balanced the way it is? Let’s find out in this article.
Why Everdark Tricephalos in Elden Ring Nightreign Feels Overtuned?

There are two primary reasons why Everdark Tricephalos, aka Galdius, Beast of Night, might feel a tad overtuned. Firstly, the boss has a significantly larger HP pool compared to its vanilla counterpart. While most Everdark bosses usually have a bigger HP bar, it’s often a 20-30% increase. However, for Everdark Gladius, the HP increase feels way more than just a 30% buff
However, that’s by design. In the base game, Gladius is the very first boss (Nightlord) that the game introduces to the players. And as an introductory Nightlord, which players are expected to defeat without Large or even Medium Relics, Gladius has significantly less HP compared to other Nightlords.
However, when it comes to Everdark Tricephalos, there’s no such limitation in place. Everdark Gladius is meant to be an endgame encounter; in fact, it’s the last of the Everdark Sovereign bosses (the ones that were confirmed to get Everdark versions). As such, its HP is scaled based on similar endgame bosses. Another major reason why players might find the boss tougher than usual is its tendency to use AOE attacks.
Similar to Heolstor, Everdark Gladius usually relies on AOE attacks in its second phase. And these AOEs often take out a chunk of the Nightfarer’s HP in a single hit. However, most of Gladius’s AOEs are easy to dodge and often have a fairly lengthy telegraph.
How To Easily Defeat Everdark Tricephalos?
While Everdark Tricephalos might look quite intimidating, it’s not a particularly difficult boss if you know how to deal with it. Essentially, you need to focus on two things: Holy damage and physical and affinity damage negation.
Additionally, if you want an easier time with the Nightlord, you can always pick Raider or Wylder, with Holy damage buffs. Check out our detailed boss guide for more details on how to defeat Everdark Gladius.
