Players will need to maintain their Sanity in Escape the Backrooms if they want to survive long enough to make their getaway. As a new player, you might immediately notice the lack of a traditional health bar in the game. That’s because the entities roaming the backrooms are simply too dangerous for you to survive. One strike from them and you’ll die. However, in place of the HP, you’ll need to maintain your Sanity bar. Over time, your Sanity levels will dip, and if you don’t recover it frequently, you run the risk of going insane. So, without further ado, let’s check out what Sanity is and how you can keep this level up at all times.

Sanity is a mechanic that measures just how much spending prolonged periods in the backrooms is affecting your character. The more time you spend in the gloomy and creepy areas, the greater the loss of Sanity. You can check how much Sanity remains by opening your inventory screen. On the right hand side of this menu, you can see the image of a brain. This is your Sanity bar. Every level you play through will deplete your Sanity by a specified amount, which differs from one level to the next. You can check out the computer files in each level to understand just how much your Sanity level will deplete when you complete that specific level.

Needless to say, when you run out of Sanity, your character will perish. So, it’s crucial to not only keep a close watch of the Sanity levels but also replenish it whenever possible.

How To Replenish Sanity in Escape the Backrooms

As stated previously, Sanity will continue to dip the longer you remain in the backrooms. So, there’s no way to stop the levels from falling while exploring the creepy levels of the game. However, there is an item that can help replenish the Sanity you lose. The item in question is Almond Water. You will need to explore the levels thoroughly to keep a considerable stock of this consumable item. Carefully check office rooms, cupboards, and shelves for Almond Water, since these are some of the most common places where you can discover it.

After acquiring the item in question, hold on to it until your Sanity level drops below the halfway mark. We recommend drinking the Almond Water at this stage and not sooner. Doing so ensures you get the most Sanity replenishment from each can of the stuff.
