Europa Universalis 5 might be the most ambitious and detailed game Paradox Interactive has made so far, but it also has a complex learning curve filled with various resources, such as Manpower. While veterans will get the hang of the mechanics sooner or later, newcomers might struggle and get lost in the vast depth this title offers while trying to conquer foreign lands. In that case, they will need Manpower to succeed. This particular resource plays a crucial part once you start progressing, and there are several ways to increase it. Let us discuss them further in this article.

In Paradox Interactive’s latest title, Europa Universalis 5, Manpower is one of the resources. You can find it in the top right-hand corner of your screen, right beside the date. Furthermore, Manpower in the game essentially refers to the men who are prepared to become Regulars. Regulars are a type of unit that you will need when your nation leaves the Middle Ages. They are stronger than normal Levies and increasingly become important as you progress.

The Manpower of your territory in Europa Universalis 5 increases automatically each month. However, certain factors determine its rate. So, it is possible to make your Manpower grow quickly by employing some methods. Here they are:

Build Military Buildings

  • City Guard: +2
  • Sergeantry: + 5
  • Armory: +10
  • Order Stronghold: +1

The most effective way to increase your Manpower in Paradox Interactive’s new title is by using Military Buildings. Structures such as City Guard give you an additional +2 Manpower monthly. Similarly, there are other buildings that do the same, and you can look them up by going to Production, then Building, and then searching for Monthly Manpower. Alternatively, Shift + Click on the Manpower resource also brings up the menu you need.

Remember that this is one example, and other cultures may have different buildings that contribute to Manpower in the game.

Disband Armed Units

Apparently, another effective way to gain Manpower is by disbanding army units in Europa Universalis 5. This is evident from the fact that if you hover your mouse pointer over the army’s disband option, there will be a tooltip that says the following: ‘If the unit is under strength, it will free Manpower to Reinforce units in more important areas’.

Make New Laws

In Europa Universalis, there are various laws that you can use to increase your Manpower. For example, The Recruitment Law during the Age of Renaissance can give you policies to increase the maximum Manpower of your nation, and you can also unlock it quite early. Alternatively, if you are looking to boost your monthly Manpower gain, the Green Standard Army can help you with that. Here are some more examples:

  • Calpulli: +10% Manpower
  • Reformed Hussite Tactics: +10% Manpower
  • Early Standing Army: +10% Manpower
  • New Model Army: +10% Manpower
  • Allotment System: +15% Manpower
  • Canton System: +15% Manpower
  • Mass Army Policy: +20% Manpower
  • Military Settlements: +20% Manpower
  • Green Standard Army: +20% Monthly Manpower

Use Estate Privileges

Even though it largely depends on the particular nation or culture you are playing, some Estate Privileges can reportedly help you increase your Manpower. However, in a game as vast and detailed as EU5, it certainly won’t be easy to find.
