After her viewers commented that she should repay it, she declined. A clip featuring Emily’s conversation with her viewers went viral, and she received backlash on social media.
On January 6, 2025, ExtraEmily revealed that she paid her parents back for the tuition. She thanked her fans for caring about her parents and said she is “committed to growing from this experience.”
ExtraEmily Issues Public Statement to Her Viewers
ExtraEmily revealed that she paid her parents back for her college tuition on her X account. She said that some of her clips were misunderstood or “blown out of proportion” by viewers. The streamer explained:
“We have plenty of conversations offstream as mother and daughter, and what we say on stream is not representative of our whole actual situation or stance. Moreover, there are cultural differences at play relating to Asian family practices…”

She said it was her fault for bringing up the college tuition conversation on stream. ExtraEmily revealed she would not have returned the money if her chat hadn’t brought it up. She added:
“Specifically regarding my college tuition. I’m gonna be honest. I frankly would have stuck to my ways had this situation not happened. Because I support my parents through other means. But the feedback made me realize it’s not that hard to simply follow through on my word and pay them back.”
The streamer concluded her statement by saying she would grow from the experience and thanked her fans.
Nmplol and MisterArther Requested Emily To Repay Her Parents
Twitch streamers Nick “Nmplol” Polom and Artur “MisterArther” Swerhurn recently visited Emily, and they talked about the college tuition on stream. The two streamers asked Emily how much she owed her parents and why she didn’t repay them.
Emily responded to them saying:
“Nah, it’s fine. The only reason they want me to pay it back is that I’m a streamer. Because I didn’t use my degree.”

The streamer added that she had repaid $10,000 and didn’t want to repay anymore. However, when Nmp and Arther urged her to pay the remaining balance, she refused. Later, her Twitch chat began pressuring her to repay, which ultimately led her to cry on stream.

ExtraEmily shared a bank transfer screenshot as proof of the wire to her parents, showing a repayment of $46,996.86.
