1) New Cinematic Modes

Fans loved the Kurosawa Mode in Ghost of Tsushima, and it is also available in Ghost of Yotei. Aside from the previous cinematic modes, players will be able to experience the brand-new Takashi Miike mode. This mode is focused on action while adding more bloody visuals and an intense camera movement. Moreover, Watanabe mode is also making an appearance in the sequel. Inspired by Shinichiro Watanabe, this mode offers relaxed gameplay filled with lo-fi beats and a lot of style.
2) Combat Improvement

Ghost of Yotei brings a lot to the table when it comes to combat. Even though the katana is your default weapon, you can use the odachi, kusarigama, spear, and other new weapons to finish your opponents. There will be no stances like Ghost of Tsushima, so you can focus more on weapon-based combat. Each weapon has its own playstyle, so you can pick whatever suits you best, and you can switch these weapons on the go. Additionally, there’s a disarm mechanic in Ghost of Yotei, which can make fights more cinematic.

3) New Protagonist

Ghost of Yotei introduces a new protagonist to the series, Atsu. She is a mercenary who is trying to avenge her family. Her main goal is to eliminate the Yotei Six while exploring the world. On the other hand, Jin Sakai was the main lead of Ghost of Tsushima, who became the Ghost to protect his land and its people from Mongols. Both characters have their own ideals and ambitions that drive them to become the Ghost of their games.
4) Game Setting

The sequel is set in 17th-century Ezo, which is the modern-day Hokkaido. The land is famous for Mount Yotei, thus the name Ghost of Yotei. Most of the region is filled with snow, volcanic plains, frozen forests, and rugged coasts. The game takes place 300 years after the Mongol invasion of Ghost of Tsushima, so there’s no direct connection between these two games. Unlike Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei offers a harsher atmosphere, so you are going to feel the difference between these two games.
5) Exploration

Ghost of Tsushima had the traditional exploration mechanics that used waypoints to drive the player. However, Yotei brings a card-based exploration mechanic to the game. Unlike waypoints, you will have to interrogate enemies to collect clues for your next destination. The single feature can help you immerse yourself in the world of Ghost of Yotei. Moreover, while moving from place to place, you might encounter bounty hunters, and you can even take them down to get some extra rewards. Atsu uses a movable camp instead of fast travel to cook and rest. All of these features combined bring a very immersive and organic experience to the table.
