Brute Bonnet not only featured on Giovanni Cishcke’s team, but on the runner-up James Evans’ team as well. This is especially amazing, considering in the run-up to Pokemon World Championship 2025, its Unovan descendant, Amoonguss, was clearly more favored as a Grass-type that could use Spore and Rage Powder.

So, in this guide, we will see how to get the most out of Brute Bonnet and why it did so well at the 2025 Pokemon World Championships.

What Is the Build of Giovanni Cishcke’s Brute Bonnet?

If Amoonguss is all about defensive support with its secondary Poison typing and access to Regenerator, Brute Bonnet is about offensive support. It can still redirect attacks and put the opponent to sleep, but it cannot heal itself by switching out. Instead, it relies on its 111/99/99 defenses to tank a few hits. While it usually uses a Covert Cloak to avoid the secondary effects of attack, for example, flinching from Fake Out, Giovanni opted to give his Brute Bonnet a Sitrus Berry instead.

This would give his Brute Bonnet longevity as it could heal a decent portion of HP after it went into the yellow. Finally, to further boost its defensive profile, Giovanni gave his Brute Bonnet a Water-Tera type. This is useful against Calyrex Ice Rider and Chi-Yu as it now resists their STABs as opposed to being weak to them.

Moves Used by Giovanni Cishcke’s Brute Bonnet

Giovanni had Spore on his Brute Bonnet to put his opponents to sleep, which nearly won him the second match before James fought back. He also had Rage Powder for redirection, Sucker Punch as a Dark-type STAB priority move, and Seed Bomb for Grass STAB.

Which Pokemon is Brute Bonnet Good Against?

Brute Bonnet’s main role is to put Pokemon to sleep, so it will most likely have to switch into all types of opponents. However, its STAB Sucker Punch hits Restricted Legendaries like Calyrex Shadow Rider and Lunala hard. It can also hit Water-types like Urshifu Rapid Strike and Kyogre with Seed Bomb.

  • Glass Cannons: Powerful but fragile attackers like Flutter Mane, Chi-Yu, and Calyrex Shadow Rider love avoiding hits courtesy of redirection from Brute Bonnet’s Rage Powder.
  • Koraidon: Not only does Koraidon benefit from Brute Bonnet’s redirection, but the sun it sets up activates the ancient mushroom’s ability, Protosynthesis, which gives it a nice defense boost.
