What Is the Build of Giovanni Cishcke’s Chi-Yu?
In the current VGC meta, Chi-Yu functions as an offensive presence that the opponent has to consider immediately. This is not just regarding its Special Attack stat of 135, but its ability Beads of Ruin. When Chi-Yu takes the field, it lowers the Special Defense of all other Pokemon thanks to its ability. This makes them even more susceptible to Chi-Yu and its allies’ attacks.
Giovanni used a Choice Scarf to patch its moderate Speed stat of 100. While this restricted it to a single move, its sheer damage output made that a non-issue. He also went Ghost Terastallization, but this was mainly to avoid opposing Fake Out and get out of poor matchups, and is really a last-minute resort.
Moves Used by Giovanni Cishcke’s Chi-Yu
Giovanni went with the standard four STAB attacking moves, including two Fire-type and two Dark-type moves. The four moves are Dark Pulse, Overheat, Heat Wave, and Snarl. Dark Pulse and Overheat are single-target moves, though the former is more spammable as Overheat drops Special Attack harshly each time. The other two are spread moves, with Snarl serving a secondary purpose of dropping its targets Special Attack by one stage.
Which Pokemon is Chi-Yu Good Against?
With its STABs, Chi-Yu can hit both Calyrexes for super effective STAB, as well as Lunala and Zamazenta-Crowned. Though it should be wary of the latter, as it will take significant damage if it switches in on a Body Press.
Common Partners for Chi-Yu
- Special Attackers: Pokemon like Calyrex Shadow Rider and Flutter Mane, who are powerful special attackers, love the indirect damage boost they get from Beads of Ruin.
- Pokemon that can provide Redirection: As Chi-Yu rarely invests in its bulk, even with its great 120 Special Defense, it appreciates not taking hits. Common Pokemon that can help it avoid taking hits include Amoonguss, Brute Bonnet, and Ogerpon.
