In Grounded 1, you and some friends wake up to find yourselves shrunk in the backyard of someone’s house. You have no memory of past events, so your primary focus at first is to survive. Soon, you discover a mysterious device, which turns out to be the key to returning to normal size. However, a small malfunction causes an explosion, leading you to BURG.L, a robot assistant of researcher Dr. Wendell Tully.

Dr. Wendell Tully is the inventor of the SPAC.R, a device capable of shrinking humans. But his research is stolen by Ominent, an organization he used to work for. As the story unfolds, you learn that you and your friends are not the only teenagers Ominent has tested on. Fortunately, your group is the only one to survive and escape with inside help.

Escaping the Backyard

As you progress, you travel to various labs created by Wendell in his backyard, where you are trapped. The goal is to recover data chips for BURG.L so he can remember the recipe for the Embiggening Formula. After completing several key objectives, you discover Director Schmector, the evil head of the entire project.

Near the end of the game, you find Wendell, but he is in much worse shape. He has shrunk to the size of a small raisin and floats in a small hover container that acts as his life support. This is caused by Raisining Syndrome, a side effect of the shrinking process. Finding him reveals the last ingredient of the Embiggening Formula, which is Fried Science.

At this point, Director Schmector also begins sending mind-controlled insects to stop you from restoring normal size. However, he fails, as you manage to stop his final insect attack. After making the formula, you return to the SPAC.R found at the start and return to normal.

Before returning to normal, you have two options:

  • You can choose to revert to normal, but this means lacking evidence of Ominent’s misconduct. Wendell Tully survives but fails to return to normal.
  • You can defeat Director Schmector in an optional boss fight, which provides the recipe for the cure to Raisining Syndrome. This option not only restores Tully to normal in the final cutscene but also forces Ominent to halt the project due to police investigations.

That concludes the story recap of Grounded 1, and now you’re ready to jump into Grounded 2.
