Speed matters in Grow a Garden. The longer the DNA machine hums, the longer your new pets stay out of reach. The developer tucked a simple upgrade path beside the Dinosaur Egg stall that trims wait times and adds the coveted Primal egg tier.

By handing prehistoric plants to Barry, the helmet-wearing Raptor, the clunky gray tube transforms into a neon green dino head that spits out rewards almost on command. Five incremental upgrades move the machine from sluggish to streamlined.

Where To Find the DNA Machine in Grow a Garden

The DNA Machine in Grow a Garden sits beside the Dinosaur Egg stall in the center of the play area. Next to it, you’ll see Barry the Raptor wearing a construction hat. Barry is the one who handles all DNA Machine upgrades.

First, interact with Barry by pressing the E key. Make sure you have prehistoric plants before you approach him. You can get these by opening Ancient Seed packs in the game. Without these plants, you can’t start upgrading.

Hold out a prehistoric plant in your hand and select the “Take all my prehistoric plants” dialogue option. Barry will take the plants from you. Repeat this process until the blue progress bar above his head fills up. Once full, the DNA Machine automatically upgrades.

DNA Machine Upgrade Levels and Requirements

You can upgrade the DNA Machine up to five times. Each upgrade requires you to submit a specific weight of prehistoric fruit:

  • Level 1: 40 kg prehistoric fruit
  • Level 2: 60 kg prehistoric fruit
  • Level 3: 80 kg prehistoric fruit
  • Level 4: 100 kg prehistoric fruit
  • Level 5: 120 kg prehistoric fruit

With every upgrade, the DNA Machine changes its appearance. By the final level, it looks like a giant dinosaur head with green skin and red eyes. You can’t interact with it directly after upgrades, but these changes are important because they reduce the processing time and unlock access to Primal eggs.

Trading Pets and Collecting Rewards

After upgrading, head over to Graham near the Dinosaur Egg stall to trade your pets. Give him the pets you don’t need, and the DNA Machine will begin creating Dinosaur or Primal eggs. You’ll notice a timer inside the dinosaur’s mouth. Once the timer runs out, return to the machine and press E to collect your new eggs or pets.

Remember, the outcome is random. You might spend a lot of resources and still receive a standard Dinosaur egg instead of a Primal one.

If you enjoy completing quests quickly and actively collecting items, you might not need to focus on upgrading. But if you have extra pets lying around and want to save time, upgrading the DNA Machine can be a smart move.
