One year and five months after the first trailer, Rockstar unceremoniously dropped the second GTA 6 trailer on May 6, a random Tuesday morning. The two-and-a-half-minute peek into the long-awaited open-world game gives us an intimate look into the lives of Jason and Lucia. The couple emerges as the game’s protagonist duo. After serving her sentence, Lucia walks out of prison, and Jason is right there to take her back to a life of crime in Vice City, Leonida, i.e., Miami, Florida. Here are five increasingly subtle details in the trailer that you may not have noticed on an initial viewing.

1) A Heist Gone Wrong

While the first trailer showed off the world of GTA 6, the second one is more character-oriented. It focused on the story of Jason and Lucia as partners in crime, hoping to strike gold with their next heist. While their exploits grow progressively more explosive throughout the trailer, one detail is clear: things aren’t going their way.

In one shot, we can see Lucia holding up two bank officials of SNB, a national bank, as alarms go off. Jason pushes one employee to the side, probably taking him hostage. Later on, an old man informs the two of them that “they” have their names, addresses, and all relevant information. “They” in this case likely refers to the police, meaning that the couple is on the run from the law following a heist.

In GTA 5, the protagonists caught unwanted federal attention when they accidentally stole a military grade experimental chemical weapon. Perhaps a similar fate has befallen Jason and Lucia, given the heat they have on them in the trailer.

2) Possible Police Antagonist

While business tycoon Steve Haines became the big bad in GTA 5, it seems that GTA 6 might be taking a page from GTA: San Andreas’ Frank Tenpenny. In the 2004 game, Tenpenny masterminded an extremely corrupt police task force that essentially acted like a street gang with government support. In the GTA 6 Trailer 2, we see a middle-aged, French-bearded cop. He seems to be heading his own task force tracking down Jason and Lucia. The unit looks like anything but the standard rank and file of the department. A heavily tattooed, muscular policeman is followed by a bushy-bearded cop with a backwards white cap, likely an undercover agent.

The leader is heard saying, “Us cops, we gotta protect each other.” The tone and wording insinuate an unlawful or corrupt action. Perhaps, he wishes another officer cover for him, potentially for an illegal activity. While there are definitely going to be criminal elements gunning for our Bonnie and Clyde, as seen in the trailer, we may see the return of a police antagonist to the series.

3) Recorded on PS5 and 30 FPS Lock

Rockstar confirmed that parts of the second trailer were captured on a PlayStation 5. This detail suggests that the footage might reflect real in-game cinematics. This gives fans a clearer sense of what to expect graphically on current-gen consoles. Furthermore, Rockstar is optimizing GTA 6 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in particular. They will be released for PC later. However, these realistic graphics come at the cost of the frame rate being locked at 30 FPS for current generation consoles.

4) Hot Together

The trailer’s energy is elevated by “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters—a funky, upbeat track that perfectly captures the chaotic, romantic thrill ride of Jason and Lucia’s crime spree. Originally released in 1986, the song marked a downturn in the band’s career, earning modest chart success. The game also seems to begin at a low point in Jason and Lucia’s lives, with the former struggling to make ends meet and the latter just getting out of jail. However, the song found a second life through movie soundtracks and now, GTA 6, and the game’s protagonists aren’t content to go out with a whimper either.

5) Modern Vice City

Unlike GTA: Vice City’s 1980s Miami-inspired setting, GTA 6 updates the iconic locale into a bustling modern-day city, complete with social media brainrot, influencers, and neon nightclubs. Unlike the retro soundtrack and pastel suits of the 2002 game, the new version trades nostalgia for glamour, exaggerating present-day Florida’s chaos and charm. Still, the spirit of the city remains intact: vibrant, dangerous, and dripping with personality.
