The GTA Online The Gooch is an event added with the Festive Surprise 2024 update. This is one of the events you can participate in during the winter season. This event puts a sneaky little twist on how the game is played. While you usually do the crime activities, this time you will be a victim of a mugging incident.
During the event, a random encounter can occur where The Gooch ambushes the player, stealing their money and snacks. The game will then mark the entity on the map, and you must chase them to retrieve your stolen items. Completing the chase grants rewards to the player aside from returning the stolen items and cash.

Everything You Need To Know About the Gooch Event in GTA Online
The Gooch in GTA Online is a limited-time event that runs from December 19, 2025, until January 1, 2025. The event is only available in Free Mode sessions. This means you can’t simply make a private session and participate in this event.
How To Spawn the Gooch in GTA Online
This event has been annually added to the game since 2022. The character takes inspiration from Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. Over the duration of the event, at random times, The Gooch will spawn in a cloud of green smoke and knock you down to the ground. After attacking you, they will steal a random amount of cash, money, and snacks in your inventory and run away. You must catch them and retrieve your stolen items by any means necessary. You cannot fight back during the encounter and will have to wait until the knockdown animation is over before you can start the chase.
Once the chase happens, The Gooch will be marked on your map. This way, you won’t have to worry about losing the chase. You will need to defeat them in order to complete the challenge and claim rewards. You have two minutes to chase them down and retrieve your stolen goods. It is best to have ranged weapons with you at all times and just shoot them after they mug you.
If you can’t complete the challenge within the given time, they will vanish in a cloud of green smoke. You’ll have to wait for them to spawn again if you want to try again.
Loot Rewards in the Gooch Event
Successfully taking down The Gooch in GTA Online will reward you with $25,000 in in-game money as well as a unique The Gooch outfit. You can also retrieve your stolen cash and snacks, so you won’t lose anything if you complete the challenge. If you do this a second time, you only get the cash prize and not another set of clothing. Either way, this random event is a nice way to get extra cash in the game.
