From the outset, you might think that Speed will determine how fast you move around in the game’s map. However, that’s not what it affects. Instead, it will impact how your battles begin. Speed is an attribute in the game that determines who will get the first turn in combat. If you have higher Speed than your opponent in a fight, you will get the first turn, and vice versa. Getting the first turn can mean the difference between life and death in the game. For instance, with the first turn, you might be able to deal enough damage and take down your foe before they get to act. However, if they go first, they might take away a chunk of your HP with their initial attack.

As we said before, Speed does not impact movement once the battle ends. It only affects the turn order when a battle starts. High Speed stat will also help you trigger status ailments on enemies, such as Thorn, Acid, Poison, and more. Since the stat helps you attack first and end battles quicker, they also have an indirect effect on how many healing items you require during an encounter.

However, Speed will not help you avoid fights by running away. For instance, if something spots you at night, it will trigger a battle with them no matter how high your Speed attribute might be.

Certain equipment sets can improve the attribute. For instance, if you equip Featherweight Blade and Saffron Feather, you will get a boost to your Speed and healing abilities. You can get both of these items easily on the first day. You can also visit specific graves or shops to get a boost to Speed stats passively. You can stack the enhancements multiple times, especially when battling against the early bosses.
