The Widow in Hollow Knight Silksong might be one of the hardest bosses in Act 1. With 2 phases and the use of environmental items, the Widow is a boss that does not allow you to stay in one place.

She attacks mostly with her silk-bound bells and can also cover the entire floor of the arena in them. Beating the Widow helps you complete the town of Bellhart main quest, as she is directly responsible for the string-bound citizens that you witness when you reach the town. Here’s a brief guide on how to beat her.

Where To Find the Widow

The Widow in Hollow Knight Silksong can be found after beating the Sister Splinter and obtaining the Cling Grip. After acquiring the Cling Grip, you will unlock a shortcut circling you back to Shellhome’s main bench. After that, the only way to go out is by sticking to the right side of the area, where you will find a tunnel of bells.

Progress through, and you will hear the Widow’s laugh nearby. If you face navigation problems, the boss’s room is located right above the town of Bellhart. You will first be able to speak to her before beginning the boss fight. If you challenge her or attack, the fight will immediately begin.

Widow Bossfight Overview

The Widow has many moves up her sleeves, but most of them are related to her silk threads she uses to drop bells on Hornet. Here’s every move that she can pull during the boss fight (2 phases) :

Phase 1

  • Bell Drop: The Widow uses her Silk threads to drop bells on Hornet from above. Drops one where Hornet stands, and the other is random. There are dust particles and a golden silk thread indicating where the bell will land. The bells bounce once before being destroyed.
  • The Floor is Bells: The Widow starts crawling across the floor and places strings behind. After a moment, bells start covering the floor in her direction.
  • Dive and Swipe: The Widow flies up and dives at Hornet. After landing, she starts rushing towards Hornet using her claws. The Swipe attacks on the floor deal 2 damage. The attack ends when she reaches one end of the arena.
  • Diagonal Bell Drop: The Widows pulls down bells in a diagonal direction. One of them will fall in front of the boss, and the other a bit behind. Silk threads indicate where the bells will land.

After completing Phase 1, the Widow will focus on the Diagonal Bell drops plus a few more moves mentioned below.

Phase 2

Phase 2 makes the Widow enraged and she becomes faster and more aggressive. Here are the new moves during this phase:

  • Roaring Bells: The Widow roars, and 4 Bells drop in the arena simultaneously. The Bells always drop at the same spot.
  • Slash Rush: After the Roaring Bells, the Widow will start rushing directly with her claws, usually. This is totally RNG, but she will perform this move most of the time.

How To Beat Widow: Tips and Tricks

The Widow in Hollow Knight Silksong has long windows where she stays still, compared to other bosses in the game. The best time frame to attack her is when she starts pulling her threads to attack Hornet with bells. You can easily get in 3 hits, and more. Plus, the dropping bells can also be deflected as they fall, giving you even more time to attack.

During the Floor is Bells attack, you can downward swipe (if you have the reaper’s crest) and land a hit on her. This attack can be dodged by just jumping and using the Drifter’s Cloak.

There are two variations of her Dive attacks, one that tracks Hornet on the ground, and the other waits for her to jump. The dive that attacks Hornet in the air deals 2 damage, but can be parried if attacked at the right time. Her swipe attacks on the ground can also be parried, but you have to strike two times to negate the damage, or you will take one hit.

The Widow is a boss that requires patience in her fight, as she usually stands for most of her fight. You can focus more on dodging when her phase 2 begins, as she starts overlapping her moves. Especially after the Roaring Bells move, when she starts swiping, but the bells and effects hide her model, making it often too late to see it coming.
