In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can find and defeat the Cogwork Dancers in Hollow Knight Silksong.

The Cogwork Dancers in Hollow Knight Silksong is a boss encounter that’s more challenging than most boss fights. That’s because here you don’t just face off against one strong enemy, but two of them at the same time. However, if you plan to progress to the main quest of the game in Act 2, you’ll have to beat them. Thankfully, since both the bosses attack in a synchronized manner, you can easily predict their moves after a bit of study.
Or, if you simply want to get through this encounter as quickly as possible, the following guide should help you.
Where To Find the Cogwork Dancers in Hollow Knight Silksong
You will run into these two vicious enemies at The Citadel. They will wait for you just at the intersection of Choral Chambers and Cogwork Core. Since this isn’t an optional boss fight, and you need to beat them to proceed through the main campaign, there isn’t a way you’ll miss the encounter. Once the battle begins, be prepared to tackle four different phases of attacks.
Cogwork Dancers in Hollow Knight Silksong: Boss Overview
Phase 1
- The bosses will move in sync with one another and attack the same spot, which is indicated by the white line that appears. Make sure you avoid the spot where this line points.
- Watch out for their AoE attack mid-air, where the two enemies come together and unleash slash attacks. Keep your distance from them at this stage. You can also heal Hornet during this time.
- The two enemies also divide the arena between them to start slash attacks through the air. You can evade these attacks by jumping up and reaching a safe space.
Phase 2
- Once you’re able to stun one of the Cogwork Dancers by dealing enough damage, the second phase of the battle begins.
- The attack patterns remain the same as the first phase. However, the bosses will be much faster now.
- Use standard attacks any time the Dancers are stationary and then dodge out of the way of incoming strikes.
Phase 3
- During the third phase, the attack movesets again remain the same. However, the Dancers no longer move in perfect sync.
- Instead, one of them will unleash the attack first, while the other one does it a couple of seconds later. This can make their moves more challenging to predict.
- We suggest using the Simple Pin or the Threefold Pin at the boss that’s farthest from you.
Phase 4

- The fourth phase begins after one of the Dancers is down.
- In this phase, the sole Dancer will move much slower than before, giving you plenty of time to predict its attack and get out of the way.

The key in this battle is distance and how well you can manage to maintain it from both bosses. Predicting their moves is easy since the white lines literally show you where they’re going to strike. The following strategies, tools, and skills can work well in tandem with your normal attacks here.
- Maintain distance: Keep your distance from both enemies by closely following the white lines that appear just before an attack. Do not try to predict their moves before these lines are visible.
- Attack at the right instant: You should take the opportunity to attack just after the bosses have executed their attack. At this point, they will be stationary for just a second or two.
- Warding Bell: Use the Warding Bell tool to ensure you can heal safely without the threat of additional damage.
- Threefold Pins: Use Threefold Pins to target the enemy that’s far away from you, especially during the third phase.
- Reaper Crest: this particular crest enables you to acquire more Silk and keep up sustained damage through the use of Silk Skills.
