Much like the original Hollow Knight, Silksong has no shortage of incredibly challenging boss fights. Among the many early-game bosses, Moorwing easily takes the cake for being the most difficult, simply due to the mechanics involved in the battle. Technically, it’s a fairly straightforward boss fight.

However, the amount of damage Moorwing can dish out, coupled with its erratic nature, makes it a substantial challenge. Furthermore, the boss has access to both ranged and melee attacks and can deal double damage. Suffice it to say, Moorwing is a force to be reckoned with. The only solace here is that Moorwing is an optional boss in Hollow Knight Silksong.

However, if you’re going for a completionist playthrough, you will have to defeat Moorwing. Thankfully, there are ways to make the boss fight easier. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat Moorwing in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Where To Find Moorwing in Hollow Knight Silksong?

Moorwing can be found in Greymoor along the path that leads to Bellhart. When you first reach the gate that leads to the boss, you will find it locked and inaccessible. However, if you take the path to the left by going up the platforms, you can get around the locked door and reach the other side of the gate.

After you reach this location, you need to jump down the platforms and make your way to the far-right corner. Furthermore, you need to use your Needle to break the rope holding the nearby platform. Using this newly unlocked platform, you can reach Moorwing by taking an immediate left.

Note that Moorwing only appears in that area if you haven’t completed the Lost Fleas quest. If you did complete that quest before reaching Moorwing’s boss area, you will find the Flea Caravan in its place. The only way to then fight Moorwing is to start a new playthrough. As such, you’re required to fight this boss in the early-game sections of Hollow Knight Silksong.

Moorwing is an incredibly aggressive and agile boss, despite its bulky appearance. It has access to multiple ranged as well as melee attacks, which can easily catch you off guard. Here’s a list of attacks Moorwing uses:

  • Blade Flurry: Moorwing usually starts the boss fight with a flurry of attacks using the blades on its feet. This attack can quickly deplete Hornet’s HP. However, it’s also one of the easiest attacks to dodge. You can simply jump and dash to avoid getting hit by the blades.
  • Blade Boomerang: This attack is telegraphed by Moorwing looking down and letting out a loud roar. Following the roar, the boss will send out two spinning blades that move diagonally to the corners and then meet at the center. This is one of the trickiest attacks to dodge.
  • Spinning Blades: After the initial volley of blade attacks, Moorwing will send out another volley of spinning blades across the ground. Jumping and diagonal dives are an easy way to avoid this attack.
  • Ground Slam: While it’s advantageous to stand underneath Moorwing, be mindful of the boss’s ground slam attack.

Here are some tips that will help you easily defeat Moorwing:

  • For Moorwing, you want to adopt a more defensive playstyle. We highly recommend learning the Drifter’s Cloak for this boss fight. It will help a lot with timing your attacks, especially during the Blade Volley attacks.
  • While diagonal dives can be useful in this encounter, they are incredibly situational. Instead, you want to use diagonal jumps as respite to heal and regain your footing in the battle. Considering how fast Moorwing moves, you will get plenty of opportunities to attack the boss even without diagonal dives.
  • After the initial wave of Blade Volley, Moorwing always gives you a few moments to attack. However, if you’re low on health, we recommend using this window to heal instead.
  • Moorwing is fast but can be easily outmaneuvered if you stay close to it. You can stay underneath the boss and attack it. However, keep an eye on the Spinning Blades and Ground Slam telegraphs.
  • You can make the battle a little easier by recruiting Garmond for aid against Moorwing. To do so, you need to first get defeated by Moorwing at least once. After that, head up the platform connecting the boss arena (use the wind current) and talk to Garmond. Select “Yes” when prompted. After that, enter the boss fight, and Garmond as well as Zaza will join you in the battle.

Moorwing is an incredibly challenging boss in Hollow Knight Silksong. However, with practice and perseverance, you can defeat the boss. Much like the bosses in the original Hollow Knight, the encounter against Moorwing is all about learning the boss’s attack patterns. Once you master how to counter most of Moorwing’s attacks, the battle gets significantly easier.
