Sister Splinter is a boss in Shellwood that you must defeat in Hollow Knight Silksong. Here’s how you can defeat her easily.

Sister Splinter is one of the easiest yet most frustrating bosses in Hollow Knight Silksong that you fight in Act 1. She is an essential boss that you cannot skip, as defeating her unlocks the path to Cling Grip, which allows Hornet to wall grab. She only has one singular attack that she does herself.
However, she heavily relies on environmental hazards and the countless flying minions she can spawn. To help you out, here’s a guide on how to defeat Sister Splinter in Hollow Knight Silksong.
Where To Find Sister Splinter

Sister Splinter in Hollow Knight Silksong can be found in the uppermost region of Shellwood, which is to the left of Bellhart. Make your way through the Shellwood and reach the middle section of the area, where the Bench you are going to be respawning on lies. To start the optimal route to the boss, first enter the lift and go up. Now, enter the room to the right and make your way to the rightmost wall, where you have to pogo on wildflowers to climb up to the upper section.
Note that you have to pogo off some more flowers to cross the gap between platforms. Once you make it through, keep running to the left as woody vines start to block your path. To start the fight, keep going left till both sides are blocked.
Sister Splinter Bossfight Overview

As mentioned before, Sister Splinter has only one move, which makes her one of the easiest bosses to dodge. However, that changes when she starts spawning countless vine walls and minions. Note that all the vine walls deal contact damage during the fight, which is evident from the thorns on them. That said, here are all the attacks you face during her boss fight (2 phases):
Phase 1
- Claw Strike: Sister Splinter slashes at the ground with her claws three times in a row. This is the only attack she does herself. The boss tracks Hornet’s position to strike at her and alternatively changes the hand she attacks with.
- Vine Walls: Sister Splinter brings down wooden vines to block off sections of the arena. You can see dust coming from the roof where the vine is going to drop from. Each vine takes three hits to break unless you have a damage boost, which isn’t possible till you defeat Widow, the next major boss.
- Minion Spawn: Sister Splinter shrieks and spawns a Splinterbark. These enemies fly and spin to deal continuous damage. She can spawn multiple of them with continuous shrieks.
After you complete Phase 1, Sister Splinter gets aggressive with the vine walls and constantly tries to confine you in a small space. Here’s what happens in Phase 2:
Phase 2
- Vine Forest: Sister Splinter spawns countless vine walls in the arena, which makes moving impossible. There’s a brief period of respite before she spawns back in the arena.

How To Beat Sister Splinter: Tips and Tricks

Sister Splinter in Hollow Knight Silksong has animations during her fight where she stays still in one spot. Use these moments to deal at least two upward strikes, with one more if you wish to play aggressively. The best time to attack her is after she does the triple claw strike, after which she stays completely still for a second or two.
After you deal some damage, Sister Splinter gets stunned and falls to the ground. Note that she does contact damage while falling, so move out of the way. Don’t run much farther, and dash back towards her to get in a few more strikes. When she spawns her minions, you can kill them fairly easily with one strike from your Silkspear. It is recommended to defeat them as soon as possible to avoid being overwhelmed.
For the vines, it is essential to keep at least two-thirds of the arena open. By doing so, you get enough space to move around freely and dodge all Sister Splinter and her minions’ attacks. For the tools, the Sting Shard is perfect, as it allows you to deal a lot of AoE damage to the boss, her minions, and the vine walls.
