Hollow Knight Silksong: How To Get and Use the Apostate Key

While exploring The Slab region of the game, you’ll need the Apostate Key in Hollow Knight Silksong if you want to open one of the locked doors. However, players may spend hours scouring The Slab section looking for this key but have nothing to show for all their efforts.

That’s because, unlike what most would assume, the key isn’t anywhere close to The Slab area. In the following guide, we’ll explain how you can get your hands on the Apostate Key and where you can use it.

How To Find the Apostate Key in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Apostate Key is in the Putrefied Ducts region of the game. To get to this location, you’ll first need to journey to the peak of Mount Fay and grab the Faydown Cloak (Double Jump). After that, you can follow two distinct routes to get to the Putrefied Ducts. The first one is through the Memorium section of the Choral Chambers. Alternatively, you can take the Bilewater route to reach the Putrefied Ducts too.

Memorium Route

• Step 1: Head to Songclave and make your way along the route that takes you to the Cogowrk Dancers boss fight.
• Step 2: While taking this path, you’ll find a spot that lets you jump up into the Memorium area, which is the top portion of the Choral Chambers. Take this route.
• Step 3: Now take the path to the right and go all the way till you can cross the top of a bridge. Beware of a few bats here that’ll attack you. This is also the area where you can find and save Jubilana, the merchant NPC.
• Step 4: At the far end of this path, jump up and you’ll be able to enter the Putrefied Ducts region.
• Step 5: Follow the main shaft and go all the way to the bottom.
• Step 6: Take a left and then hop up to a platform before heading left again.
• Step 7: A giant enemy will come rushing toward you. Defeat it and keep heading left to find a cage.
• Step 8: Break the cage to retrieve the key.

Bilewater Route

• Step 1: Start from the Bench in Bilewater, where you face off against the area’s main boss, Groal the Great.
• Step 2: Go left from that Bench and scale the section riddled with spikes. You’ll need Double Jump in this portion.
• Step 3: At the top, take the left path. A monster will rush out toward you in this area. Deal with it before moving further left.
• Step 4: Jump across to reach another platform and then break the cage here. You can then pick up the Apostate Key.

How To Use the Apostate Key in Hollow Knight Silksong

After getting the key, make your way to The Slab. Proceed right and then up. Keep going up and then jump onto the right-side platform. That’s where the locked door is, which the Apostate Key can open. Unlocking this door will help you open up a shortcut to The Slab that lets you enter the region without getting kidnapped.
