In this guide, we’ll explain how you can get the Scuttlebrace Tool in Hollow Knight Silksong, and how you should use it.

During her journey through Pharloom, Hornet will need to rely on a variety of tools, including the Scuttlebrace Tool in Hollow Knight Silksong. This special tool can help you get some distance between you and an enemy, especially when things are looking dire.
However, like most tools, you won’t have access to the Scuttlebrace from the very beginning. In fact, you’ll have to reach Act 2 before you can finally grab this one. Here’s a detailed guide on how you can unlock the Scuttlebrace and what it does.
How To Unlock the Scuttlebrace Tool in Hollow Knight Silksong

You can only get the Scuttlebrace Tool by purchasing it from the Twelfth Architect NPC in the Underworks. You have to spend 140 Rosaries and 1x Craftmetal to grab this particular tool. The following are some steps to follow to reach the Twelfth Architect so that you can complete this transaction. Keep in mind that you’ll need the Clawline ability to get to where this merchant is.
- Once you’re in the Underworks section in Act 2 of the game, travel to the section’s bench. This should be toward the northeastern part of the section.
- From the bench area, jump to the right and use the Clawline to grapple to a ledge on this side.
- On the ledge, you’ll find a lever that you can pull to open the way forward.
- Proceed inside and speak with the Twelfth Architect here.

How To Use Scuttlebrace in Hollow Knight Silksong
Scuttlebrace is a yellow tool that you can equip to your current Crest. With it active, Hornet will retreat farther back rapidly if the situation seems dire. To trigger this, you can either press the RT/R2 button on your controller or down and C on your keyboard. Holding down these keys will cause Hornet to retreat quite a ways back or even climb on walls if there’s a wall blocking her way.
You can use the tool to quickly get away from fights that you might accidentally trigger during exploration. Or, you can rely on it to get away from a close-range attack from an enemy, where a simple Swift Step doesn’t work. In some cases, you might be looking to farm Silk by dealing with certain enemy types. You can take down those enemies, then use Scuttlebrace to retreat to safety without needing to engage with the tougher opponents that may be in the area.
