If you’re desperate to unlock the Thread Storm Silk skill in Hollow Knight Silksong, but don’t know how, the following guide will help you. Thread Storm is one of the powers or skills in the game that sets Hornet apart from the protagonist of the original Hollow Knight. It’s a great offensive power to have in your arsenal when going up against the toughest foes in the game.

However, since you don’t have the skill available right from the beginning, you’ll need to unlock it after completing certain requirements. Let’s dive into the complete unlock process for this skill.

You will need to head to the Greymoor region of the game and proceed to a section within that map named Craw Lake. While the skill is just above Craw Lake, this section won’t be accessible to you at first. To unlock this area, you’ll first have to complete a specific challenge nearby.

Complete the Bird Challenge

The challenge involves fighting waves of dangerous birds, or craws. To access this challenge, simply head across the water in the Craw Lake region and enter the building there. Proceed down below and then scale the platforms to the right to reach the challenge room. As soon as you enter the room, a small bird enemy along with a larger dart-throwing bird enemy will appear. Fight them off, making sure to take out the smaller foe first before you go after the larger craw. For the bigger bird, stay far back until they throw the darts. Then, quickly dodge between them and close in for a quick attack.

After you beat the first couple of birds, two more smaller birds will appear. This is the perfect opportunity to farm a bit of health if you’re running low and also replenish your silk. The third wave will include a small bird enemy and a flying swordsman. Just as you did in the first wave, make sure to eliminate the smaller bird first before going after the sword-wielding foe. The bird swordsman will strike out at you with a flurry of attacks and stabs. So, watch out for those, and you should be able to defeat them.

After the fall of the swordsman, the next wave will again include small birds, but three of them this time around. Yet again, you can take this opportunity to defeat them and farm some much needed health and silk from them. After that comes the final wave of enemies. This time around, you’ll have to face off against a dart-throwing bird and a swordsman at the same time. We suggest taking out the dart-throwing enemy first, since the swordsman poses a slightly lower risk.

Once both of these enemies are eliminated, you will open up the previously inaccessible location just above Craw Lake.

Grabbing the Thread Storm Silk Ability

Exit the challenge building, and you’ll find several bouncy balls outside. Use your pogo stick to quickly climb higher and scale toward the left-hand side of the screen. Interact with the lever. Doing so opens up a path for you to traverse through the spikes. After going through a few more pogo sections, you’ll finally arrive at the idol with the Thread Storm ability. Simply bind it and you’re good to go.

After equipping the skill, you can begin using it immediately by pressing RB/R1. Doing so will release several silk threads, which will then engulf any nearby enemies and restrict their movements. This is an especially useful ability to have when fighting against flying enemies. However, keep in mind that the skill requires 4 Silk to use every time. So, use it sparingly and only when you feel it will benefit your efforts.
