Silksong greatly increases the complexity of the game when compared to the prequel Hollow Knight. Other than the game in general being more difficult, there are countless other factors that you need to keep in mind. Crests in particular affect Hornet’s playstyle entirely. The Witch Crest in particular is one of the more complex ones that you will get in the mid-to-late game phases of Hollow Knight Silksong.

You will get the Witch Crest in the Bilewater Region of Hollow Knight Silksong. This is an extremely offense-focused item that can leech (or steel) the enemy’s health to heal you instead. That said, getting the Witch Crest is not an easy job, and requires you to complete multiple wishes. In this article, we will explain how you can get the Witch Crest in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Steps to Get Witch Crest in Hollow Knight Silksong

Here are the steps to get the Witch Crest in Hollow Knight Silksong:

  • Locate the Twisted Bud and deliver it to Greyroot
  • Find the Bell Hermit.
  • Find Yarnaby and progress the quest.
  • Locate Benjin and Crull in Sinner’s Road and purchase Steel Spines.
  • Return to Yarnaby.

Below is a more detailed explanation of each step mentioned above:

Locate The Twisted Bud And Deliver To Greyroot

You will first need to unlock Bilewater region to progress in this quest. Once done, it is best that you find Shakra and purchase the map for the region from her for 90 Rosaries. Once done, follow the route marked above to reach the Twisted Bud. You must also have unlocked Clawline to reach this section.

Keep going deeper till you eventually find a crying infant-like creature. This is none other than the Twisted Bud in Hollow Knight Silksong. Pick this up and make your way to Greyroot to deliver this item. Greyroot is in Shellwood, so you need to head back and drop off the item. You must have completed the Rite of Pollip quest otherwise this part will not be accessible. After you have destroyed 6 Pollip Flowers as part of the quest, you will be able to deliver the Twisted Bud to Greyroot.

Greyroot will eventually betray and infect Hornet in Hollow Knight Silksong.

However, you will be betrayed here, and Greyroot will instead infect Hornet. In turn, this will have you immediately search for a cure, triggering the Rite of Rebirth quest in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Find The Bell Hermit

Eventually, a cutscene will ensue following which you will break out of the Chapel of the Witch. Talk to the NPC outside, who will tell you to “seek the old hermit sulking beneath the Bellway.” The Bell Hermit’s location is not within the visible map’s range. However, follow the Bellway and you can reach her easily. Talk to this NPC and she will tell you about the “one exiled from Bellhart”, which is none other than Yarnaby.

Find Yarnaby in Greymoor

Make your way to Greymoor where you must find Yarnaby, who is essentially a bee. Head the the western-most part of Greymoor, and you will find Yarnaby who will also trigger the Infestation Operation questline that directly cures Hornet and unlocks the Witch Crest in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Locate Crull And Benjin in Sinner’s Road And Ourchase Steel Spines

As a part of the operation quest, you will now head to Sinner’s Road and seek out Crull and Benjin. These are two separate NPCs, but they appear together as a group. You can find them near the upper part of Sinner’s Road, near the eastern section. Collect 260 Rosaries and purchase Steel Spines from them, which will be necessary to cure you of Greyroot’s infection.

Return To Yarnaby In Greymoor

Finally, with the Steel Spines from Benjin and Crull, head back to Yarnaby in Greymoor. Talk to him and the bee will instigate an operation, with Hornet lying on the bed and a lot of needles about to pierce her. During this cutscene, you will unlock the Witch Crest in Hollow Knight Silksong.

You will come to know that the operation was a success, but the infestation was not really removed. Instead, Yarnaby’s operation turned this infection into the Witch Crest, which will allow Hornet to harness its power in battle.

Witch Crest has the following description in Hollow Knight Silksong:

Whip the needle in sweeping swings. Leech the life of foes through twisted roots.

The Witch Crest is a unique crest in Silksong that has the ability to leech life. It favors offensive plays, with three blue slots and two red slots to use your tools. With this crest, Hornet’s attacks have wider arc, but she can also restore some of her own health while hitting enemies.
