The pogo mechanic is certainly one of the ways in which Silksong differs from Hollow Knight. Although many mechanics have been kept the same in Silksong, there are also some very clear differences. One of the key changes is that Hornet can’t attack vertically downwards.

If you are a veteran of Hollow Knight, you might be thrown off by how the pogo works. However, beginners might in fact find it easier to adjust. Here is how you can pogo effectively in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Both Hollow Knight and Silksong are metroidvanias. As with any metroidvania, platforming takes up a massive part of the game and is of utmost importance. Of the many tricks at your disposal for platforming, mastering a pogo jump is one of the most important. However, it is also more difficult to master.

In the original Hollow Knight, pogo jumps were done by aiming downwards and attacking. This lets you strike objects below you to bounce upwards. In Silksong. This pogo mechanic works somewhat similarly, in that you have to make a downwards attack.

However, it is different in its execution because in Silksong, when you attack downwards, you do not merely strike below you. Instead, you do a diagonal downward dash in the direction you are facing. This makes the movement more complex than in the original.

When you use your downward attack, you will bounce slightly upwards after colliding with an enemy or other things. This slight bounce is your cue to attack downwards again the reach the next point and bounce again, continuing until you reach your destination. Note that you should not always do the diagonal attack at the height of your bounce. You may need to initiate a delay to reach the next point properly.

The first thing you should do is practice downward attacks. Being able to do them on the fly will be of absolute importance. Practice will also help you get a sense of the attacks angle and range. All of this will be highly important in platforming properly throughout the game.

Why Do You Need To Pogo in Hollow Knight Silksong

Pogo jumping is a skill you must master if you want to be able to traverse Pharloom. Certain locations may not be easily accessible (if at all) without using multiple pogo jumps to reach them. The primary method of performing a pogo is through the red fruits found throughout the map.

These fruits can help you reach higher locations if you bounce on them. However, you can only bounce off of them via your downward (diagonal) attack. So if you want to be able to traverse the map effectively, then you’d better start getting in some practice.
