A multiplayer mod in Hollow Knight Silksong has almost become a necessity, owing to the game’s crushing difficulty when you play solo. While the developers don’t seem to officially support multiplayer in any shape or form, the modding community has taken it upon itself to get that fixed.

Silksong was released around a week ago, and within just these few days, modders have already released a couple of mods that let you enjoy the experience with a friend. The following guide will help you set up either of the two mods and understand how they work.

Currently, there are two multiplayer mods of note for the game. These are:

• SilklessCoop
• Silksong Steam multiplayer mod

You can download the mods from Nexus Mods. However, keep in mind that you have a much better chance of getting these mods to work in the Steam version of the game. Now, let’s dive into the installation process for both of these.

How To Install the SilklessCoop Mod

This mod installation is the more technical of the two. Follow the steps mentioned below to activate it.

• Step 1: Download and install the BepInEx and MelonLoader Loader patcher for Silksong. This mod will help the other mod become active in the game.

• Step 5: Launch the game, and the mod should now be active.

How To Install the Silksong Steam Multiplayer Mod

Installing this mod is simpler, since you won’t need the BepInEx patcher. So, you simply need to download the mod zip file and follow these steps:

• Step 1: Open the downloaded mod zip file.
• Step 2: Select Extract all and place the files in the Mods folder inside the root directory for the game. If you don’t have a mods folder yet, create one. Your root directory Mods folder location should look something like this for the Steam version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hollow Knight Silksong\Content\Mods.
• Step 3: Launch the game, and the mod should now be active.
• Step 4: Now, one of the players needs to click on the ‘Create Room’ option that appears, followed by ‘Invite Players.’

Keep in mind that both of these mods promise basic multiplayer in the game for now. The multiplayer features will likely undergo further polishing as time passes. For now, both mod creators promise that another player can load into your game at the same time. However, since the game was designed for solo play, multiplayer could likely introduce a range of balancing issues. And, as with any mods, installing them could cause bugs or errors to appear in your game.
