Unlike the previous title, Hollow Knight Silksong has a different mechanic in place when you die in the game. For the prequel, dying means you lose your Geo and Soul. You will then have to face your own shade and defeat it to earn back what you lost. This adds a challenge for players and incentivizes them to be extra careful not to die to avoid this punishing mechanic.

Nevertheless, in Hollow Knight Silksong, a cocoon is formed when The Hornet dies. It’s a different mechanic from the original game. With that said, here is what you need to know about what happens when you die in Hollow Knight Silksong.

When the Hornet dies in Hollow Knight Silksong, she leaves a cocoon. You then get sent back to the last bench you used as a save point. When you return to your location of death, you can break the silk cocoon. It contains your Rosaries, if you tie them with a strong, as well as regenerating a bit of silk. This means you get a bit of resource that can help you get back into the fight.

Keep in mind that without the string, you will lose all your Rosaries when you die. This means there is a high risk of losing your hard-earned item if you don’t protect it with a string. On top of that, you can’t tie your Rosaries all the time, as you need to break the string if you want to use them. You will have to make the decision yourself whether it’s worth tying them or risk carrying them loose in case you need to use them soon.

Needless to say, this mechanic is less punishing than the original Hollow Knight game. Even so, you still need to keep your silk and Rosaries in mind when going into combat.

Here are a few ways to regenerate your Silk meter in Hollow Knight Silksong:

  • Landing a hit on enemies can restore a bit of Silk.

  • Just like Spindles, you can also find and break Silk Webs scattered throughout the world.
