You will need a simple key to open a locked door, and this guide will cover the locations for all of these in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

You will find the Simple Key near the start of the game in Hollow Knight Silksong. However, the use of this item does not become clear until you make some progress further into the game.
There are a total of four Simple Keys you can find in the game. You can use any of these keys on any of the corresponding doors in Silksong.
(Note: If you want to collect all four Simple Keys at once, then you will want to progress through the campaign until you at least unlock various Ancestral Arts and mobility buffs like the Drifter’s Cloak, Swift Step and more.)
All Simple Key Locations in Hollow Knight Silksong

All in all, there are four keys sprinkled throughout the game. These are:
- You can get this item from a merchant at Bone Bottom for 500 Rosaries. This might be a challenge to obtain in the early game without a good farming spot. So, you can come back later with a larger amount of mobility options and Rosaries in your pockets.
- The second key is not so easy to acquire. You must head to Sinner’s Road, and platform all the way to the top of the vertical passage in that area.
- Another key can be purchased from Jubiliana at Songclave. However, this time it will cost 650 Rosaries instead of the earlier 500.
- The last key is also quite easy. This one is found at a Bench in the Sands of Karak. Head to the extreme right part of this area to find the Bench of this region. There will be a nearby corpse you can loot for the last key.
All Door Locations To Use Simple Keys in Hollow Knight Silksong

The First Door
The Simple Key is used to unlock a locked gate that leads to the Wormways. However, the path to get to this door might be a good challenge. Follow these steps:
- Firstly, head to the upper part of the Marrow and turn left to enter Mosshome.
- Here, you will encounter a bunch of pilgrim enemies. Beat them or avoid them—the choice is yours.
- At the end of the room, hit the lever to open a gate below you. Turn left after dropping down.
- Now, you will be in a crucial area. Before attempting any more jumping, fall down through the first gap you see. This will put you into another area with another lever nearby.
- Make sure to flip this lever, as doing so will lower the elevator, which will be a quick shortcut to get back to this area in case you fail.
- Now head back up and jump across the platforms to reach the other side.
- If you do not have the ability to dash or haven’t acquired the Drifter’s Cloak either, then you will have to pogo jump on top of the flying enemies to reach the other side. This process is significantly harder but still not impossible.
- Regardless, you will have reached near the end of this journey. This room will have an enemy on the roof that pours down toxic acid on you. You can simply sprint past this enemy without battling it or take cover under the various platforms in the area.
- Lastly, you will arrive at a gate where you can insert the Simple Key.
The Second Door

Follow the given instructions to reach this door:
- This one will be a path connecting the Deep Docks to the Far Fields. You simply need to head to the location of the Forge Daughter, and go to the level below her. Now, turn right and go straight. Eventually, you will reach a gap, with lava beneath you.
- You will need the Swift Step Ancestral Art, to dash over the gap and reach this door.
The Third Door
The key that you obtained from the Sinner’s Road can be used quite nearby to free the Green Prince. Just head down from the place where you got the key from and you will spot the cage. Of course, there’s no mandatory requirement to use the same key. However, this would simply be the most convenient.
The Fourth Door
This door is located in the High Halls, which is in the north-western part of the Citadel. You can unlock an Ornate Lock to open the path for you to head inside. Here, you will need to break open the roof and jump up to enter a new path.
Inside, there will be a considerable amount of Rosary chests, alongside a Rosary Cannon. Make sure to grab them all.
That was everything to know about all the Simple Key and Door locations in Hollow Knight Silksong.
