PEAK has many biomes that you must cross before reaching the top of the island. Some of the final biomes, like Caldera and the Kiln, tend to be very difficult due to lava surrounding the area. Lava is unlike any other hazard in PEAK, as damage from it can be mitigated quickly, but your items suffer most of the damage.

This guide explains how lava works in PEAK and ways to work around it.

Dangers of Lava in PEAK

In PEAK, you won’t encounter lava until you reach the last few biomes—Caldera and the Kiln. Both have lava at the bottom that you must cross using various walls and platforms. Additionally, lava affects the nearby surroundings. For example, rocks that come into contact with lava turn red above the surface and can burn you if you stand on them.

As mentioned earlier, lava is a hazard unlike any other. Coming into contact with it does not damage you, but sets you on fire. You can see how much you have burned by looking at your Stamina bar, which is replaced by a red bar with a fire symbol. The burn status does not require healing items, as it reduces at the rate of one tick every 2-3 seconds when on solid ground.

Finally, the main hazard with lava is that your cook can start burning when in your inventory. This happens slowly over time, and your food can end up becoming useless when burned. Therefore, carrying most types of food items in the final biomes is usually not a good idea, unless you are very skilled at avoiding lava.

Tips for Navigating Through Lava in PEAK

  • Try to carry food in backpacks, as they seem to protect the food from burning.
  • Carry enough healing items to heal burns quickly if needed. Moreover, both lava regions have the most difficult terrains in the entire game. Therefore, having healing items is always essential.
  • Stick to higher ground to avoid lava. However, you might need to step on lava to cross small sections with no ground. Heal completely beforehand and ensure you have no other damage affecting your stamina bar.

Following these tips can greatly help you traverse regions with lava in PEAK.
