Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s playable characters (Nightfarers), and how you can change them during gameplay.

The Nightfarers are easily the best aspect of Elden Ring Nightreign, apart from the bosses, of course. Unlike the original Elden Ring or FromSoftware’s past souls-like titles, Nightreign doesn’t feature a traditional “starting class” system. Instead, the Nightfarers fill in that role. On paper, the Nightfarers are the starting classes. However, they’re also much more than that. While you can upgrade (and customize) the Nightfarers using Relics, their abilities and passives are permanent. Every Nightfarer offers a distinct gameplay and combat style, complete with its own set of advantages and weaknesses. While you do have access to six Nightfarers right from the start, some of them are hidden behind optional quests.
Once you discover all the Nightfarers, you can freely switch between them, albeit with some caveats. Here’s everything you need to know about the playable characters (Nightfarers) in Elden Ring Nightreign and how to change between them.
All Playable Characters (Nightfarers) in Elden Ring Nightreign

There are a total of eight Nightfarers (playable characters) in Elden Ring Nightreign. From the eight characters, six are available from the start of the game (after completing the prologue). The remaining are unlocked via side-quests that you can complete after defeating the first major story boss (Nightlord) – Gladius (Tricephalos).
Every Nightfarer has a different stat (attribute) distribution, as well as active and passive abilities. You can further boost a Nightfarer’s stats using Relic Rites. However, unlike in the original Elden Ring, character customization in Nightreign is very limited. You cannot manually alter the stats of a Nightfarer to give them more Vigor or Endurance.
That said, here’s a list of all the Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign:
Available from the start
- Raider
- Guardian
- Wylder
- Executor
- Recluse
- Ironeye
Unlocked later (via side-quests)
- Duchess
- Revenant
How To Change Characters (Nightfarers)

Once you complete the prologue, you can freely switch between different Nightfarers, albeit outside an Expedition. To switch your chosen Nightfarer, simply head to the center of the Roundtable Hold and look for the Banished Knight statue past the Relic Rites table. Interact with the Banished Knight to switch between all the available Nightfarers. You can also switch your Nightfarer at the start of an Expedition. However, do note that you only have 15 seconds to lock your choice. Otherwise, the game defaults to the last chosen Nightfarer.
