Creating a second SSD partition for games is necessary if you want to quickly access, manage, and easily install mods in your games.

If you bought or built a new PC for gaming, then you understand the struggle of keeping all your data in one partition. Keeping all your files, including photos, music, movies, documents, and even games, in one partition can create a bit of a messy and unorganized file system. Wouldn’t it just be better if you had a second SSD partition for just your games and everything else on the default partition? Well, you can, and we will show you how to do that with a detailed guide below.

Guide To Creating a Second SSD Partition for Games

Everything you need to create a second SSD partition is built into Windows, so you won’t need to download any third-party tools. Here are the steps on how to create a second partition:
- Search for a program called Disk Management, and launch it. The program may appear as “Create and format hard drive partitions.”
- In the Disk Management listing, look for the partition marked with C:.
- Right-click on that partition and select Shrink Partition.
- Next, select the amount of space you want for the second SSD partition. For example, if you want 100GB, then multiply 100 by 1024, and you will get 102400. That’s the number you will input in the field- “Enter the amount….” as described in the blue area of the image above.
- Once you add 102400 in the field, click on Shrink and wait for the process to finish.
- Next, look at the bottom row in the Disk Management program. There will be a blank space of 100GB called Unallocated.
- Right-click on that Unallocated space and select “New Simple Volume.”
- Click Next a bunch of times, followed by a Finish button, and your second SSD will be ready.
This concludes the list of all the steps needed to create a second SSD partition. Now, you can copy and paste all your games from the old partition to the new one.
