Arch-Tempered Rey Dau is finally available in Monster Hunter Wilds, albeit as an Event Quest. If you thought the regular Rey Dau was tough, you’re in for a treat with the Arch-Tempered variant of the monster. Available via the A Silent Flash quest, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau is an extremely difficult monster to fight and is meant exclusively for players who have reached the endgame of Monster Hunter Wilds. While on the surface, it looks (and acts) like a regular Rey Dau, the Arch-Tempered is a significantly more powerful and aggressive variant. While it’s not particularly difficult to defeat it, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau poses a serious challenge, even for players with a maxed-out endgame build.

Thankfully, there are ways to easily overpower the monster, as long as you’re aware of its weaknesses. Here’s a comprehensive guide on Arch-Tempered Rey Dau and how you can easily defeat the newest addition in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau Overview

Technically, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau is quite similar to the Tempered Rey Dau that you can find in the Windward Plains. However, there are some key differences between the two variants. For starters, the Arch-Tempered variant’s tempered scar doesn’t run through the entirety of its body. Instead, the scar is limited to its wings and talons. While the monster is still a Flying Wyvern, it exhibits properties that you would often associate with an Elder Dragon. Although you can stagger the monster, it doesn’t stay down for too long, giving you a very brief window of opportunity to dish out damage. Additionally, the Arch-Tempered variant has much higher defense.

It’s mostly resilient to flinching even from a successful true charged slash. While you can still break the monster’s parts, doing so is significantly more difficult compared to the regular Rey Dau. In terms of difficulty, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau falls perfectly in line with the 5-star strength Tempered Rey Dau. While it’s not as difficult as the Tempered Mizutsune, it’s still a formidable monster to go up against.

How To Unlock Arch-Tempered Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds?

A Silent Flash is an Event Quest that unlocks at Hunter Rank (HR) 50. Once you reach HR 50 (or higher), simply talk to Alma at any of the base camps or the Grand Hub to start the hunting quest. Additionally, while the quest unlocks at HR 50, it’s not meant to be tackled as soon as you reach endgame. To ensure survivability and deal enough damage to slay the monster within the time limit, you will need a properly upgraded and optimized build. It’s best to hunt Arch-Tempered Rey Dau once you’re prepared with a fully upgraded build and a weapon type you’re comfortable using.

Possible Turf Wars

Similarly to the regular Rey Dau, the Arch-Tempered can have turf wars with any monster that appears in Windward Plains during Inclemency. Here’s a list of all the monster that Arch-Tempered Rey Dau can have turf wars with:

  • Doshaguma
  • Quematrice
  • Balahara
  • Rathian
  • Arkveld
  • Chatacabra

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau Weaknesses

Arch-Tempered Rey Dau shares the same weaknesses as the regular Rey Dau. As such, your best bet are weapons with either Waterblight or Iceblight affinities. Unlike Arkveld and Zoh Shia, which are highly resistant to elemental damage, Rey Dau is quite susceptible to elemental statuses. The best status to use against the monster is still Paralysis, which works quite well against most endgame monsters in the game. However, if you don’t want to use Artian Weapons, you can always rely on weapons with Water or Ice elemental properties. Here’s a list of all the elemental and status weaknesses of Arch-Tempered Rey Dau:

Elemental Weaknesses

  • Waterblight
  • Iceblight

Status Weaknesses

  • Poison
  • Sleep
  • Blastblight
  • Exhaust
  • Paralysis

Best Weapons for Arch-Tempered Rey Dau

Mizutsune’s weapons work incredibly well against the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau (Image via Capcom)

For Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, there’s no specific weapon type that more effective over the other. However, as the monster is extremely weak to elemental affinities, the best possible options are Switch Axe, Dual Blades, Bow, Hunting Horn, Light Bowgun, Charge Blade, and Long Sword. That being said, it’s very much possible to defeat the monster with other weapons as well. We at Deltia’s Gaming tested out Great Sword, Switch Axe, and Dual Blades against the monster, and didn’t face any issues apart from the monster’s inflated defenses. With the Great Sword, we were able to defeat the monster in less than 30 minutes, without the Support Hunters.

Your mileage may vary depending on your build, but as long as you play your cards right, any weapon is viable against Arch-Tempered Rey Dau.

Tips To Easily Defeat Arch-Tempered Rey Dau

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Before you head out to hunt Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, make sure to carry Flash Pods and a Pitfall Trap. These items will make your life much easier during this hunt. You can also pick up a few Armorskin potions to help with your defenses. However, it’s not necessary. Furthermore, it should be noted that despite its Arch-Tempered status, the monster is still a Flying Wyvern and hence can be captured.
  • Once you head into Rey Dau’s lair, you can either start with a sneak or a mounting attack. We recommend the latter, as it also gives a free topple right at the start of the battle. Additionally, you can transition the mount into a wall-bang, which deals a ton of damage to Rey Dau.
  • Once Rey Dau senses your presence, it will try to attack you with a charged lightning beam. However, after this attack, Rey Dau takes a bit to regain its footing. If you successfully avoid getting hit by the beam, quickly head over to the monster’s head and use a Focus Strike on its head.
  • Unlike the regular Rey Dau, in the case of Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, you want to focus most of your damage on the Legs and the Wings. Destroying the Gemchimes on the monster’s wings will help reduce the damage dealt by lightning trails. Furthermore, focusing your attacks on the wings allows you to damage the tempered wound, which you can follow up with a Focus Strike to get a free topple.
  • The attack that you need to look out for is the lightning beam, which the Arch-Tempered variant can perform twice in a row, akin to Tempered Rey Dau. Apart from this combo, most of Arch-Tempered Rey Dau’s attacks are rather easy to avoid.
  • Lastly, make sure to use all resources available to you, especially traps. However, it should be noted that Shock Traps don’t work against Arch-Tempered Rey Dau since it’s always in its enraged state. Furthermore, you can also get a free topple by using a Flash Pod on the monster while it’s airborne (akin to Rathian or other Flying Wyverns).
