Jackenstein is a tricky main story boss you will encounter in Deltarune during Chapter 4. Here is how to defeat him.
Chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune were just released a few days ago, and they came with a whole host of unique and challenging bosses. One such boss is Jackenstein, a miniboss you encounter during Chapter 4 of the game.
This boss is very different from every other boss in the game. In addition, he has some unique mechanics during the boss fight that are not seen elsewhere. All in all, he has one of the most fun fights in the game. Here is a complete guide on how you can find and beat Jackenstein in Deltarune.

How To Find Jackenstein in Deltarune
As Jackenstein is a main story boss, he cannot be missed. You will naturally encounter him as you play through the story. Jackenstein is found deep in the Dark Sanctuary’s library. In the Northwest section of the library, there is a door locked by a piano puzzle.
Once you open this door, you will find a completely dark area where you cannot see anything. Head right until you fall down, and then keep going until you trigger Jackenstein’s dialogue. From here, keep heading further down until the area becomes completely dark once again. At this point, the boss fight against Jackenstein will begin.

How To Defeat Jackenstein in Deltarune
The fight against Jackenstein is special as you cannot FIGHT against him whatsoever. Due to the area being shrouded in complete darkness, all of your attacks will automatically miss. Instead, you will have to play defensively until you can brighten up this dark scenario.
Rather than attacking you with the traditional bullet patterns of other enemies in the game, Jackenstein places you in a dimly lit maze. In this maze, you will have to find a key that unlocks the exit to the maze, and then exit post-haste.
Along the maze, you will find little yellow orbs that give you TP when you collect them. These orbs are crucial to helping you win the fight. But these orbs are not all that inhabit the maze, as there will also be numerous obstacles blocking your way.
Finally, once you reach a certain point in the maze, a giant pumpkin head will appear, say, “YOUR TAKING TOO LONG”, and proceed to chase you. This pumpkin head is the most threatening part of the boss battle.
Although you cannot harm Jackenstein, you are not out of options. Should you reach 60% TP, you can use the Unleash ACT to emit bright light from your soul. Every time you do so, you have a window to chase down Jackenstein. His mercy bar will go up every second you are in contact with him. Once you do this enough to fill up the mercy bar, the battle will end automatically.
Tips To Beat Jackenstein
Here are some tips to make the fight easier:
- The pumpkin head does not actually attack based on a timer. Instead, it automatically attacks you once you reach a certain point. You can take your time figuring out the maze and collecting the orbs until you get the key to the maze. You only need to rush when the head actually appears.
- Since FIGHTing has no point in this battle, you should use DEFEND as often as possible instead. Although TP gain is vastly reduced in this boss fight, DEFENDing will still grant you some TP to help you get to the 60% threshold easier.
