Tempered Lagiacrus might not be as challenging as Tempered Mizxutsune or the 8-star Tempered Gore Magala, but it’s still a fairly difficult monster to take down. Much like other Tempered Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, Tempered Lagiacrus is essentially a more powerful and battle-hardened variant of the regular Leviathan.

However, outside of the prominent wound on the monster’s hide, the Tempered variant has a few key differences compared to its regular counterpart. Firstly, the monster can easily combo most of its attacks into an AOE. And secondly, most of these AOE combos are incredibly lethal, even for seasoned hunters with super-optimized endgame builds.

However, much like any other monster in the game, the Tempered Lagiacrus also has its fair share of weaknesses. And if you play your cards right, you can exploit these weaknesses to get an upper hand on the monster. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat the Tempered Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Overview of Tempered Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds

In terms of abilities and movesets, the Tempered Lagiacrus is more or less the same as the regular variant of the monster. For those who aren’t aware, Tempered Monsters are essentially more aggressive variants of regular monsters. Having gone through multiple turf wars and battles with other monsters, these creatures have become battle-hardened and, as such, are much more resilient to damage.

Tempered Monsters also tend to invade other territories and disturb the balance of the ecosystem. Additionally, the Hunter’s Guild makes these creatures a priority, akin to Elder Dragons. In previous Monster Hunter games, only Elder Dragons were known to have Tempered variants.

However, in Monster Hunter Wilds, almost every other monster can become Tempered, due to the shift in ecosystem and the presence of Guardians. Even the Guardians can become Tempered, gaining access to new abilities. Tempered Lagiacrus doesn’t necessarily gain any new abilities, but it does get a major buff in terms of its stats. Unlike the regular Lagiacrus, Tempered Lagiacrus can charge its Lightning attacks at any time. It can even perform an AOE right after recovering from a stagger.

However, as is the case with most Tempered Monsters, the Tempered Wounds on these creatures are their biggest weaknesses. In the case of regular Lagiacrus, you can only stagger the monster if you land a Focus Strike on multiple wounds at the same time. However, in the case of Tempered Monster, you can stagger them right after attacking just one of the Tempered Wounds. The catch here is that tenderizing the Tempered Wounds is significantly more difficult than regular wounds.

Similar to regular Lagiacrus, the Tempered variant is weak to Fire, Ice, and Dragon. During our time going up against Tempered Lagiacrus, we found Dragon to be the best elemental option to use against the monster. In fact, if you play your cards right, you can get access to both Dragon and Fire elemental blights with just one weapon.

Essentially, you need to use Zoh Shia‘s weapons, with Scorcher equipped. By default, Zoh Shia weapons deal Dragon damage. However, if you pair the weapon with Scorcher skill, you can deal bonus Fireblight damage alongside Dragonblight. We recommend using Charge Blade or Switch Axe for this encounter.

However, we’ve found Dual Blades and even the Bow to be quite effective as well. You can also go with Light Bowgun if you plan on focusing purely on elemental damage. Here’s a look at Tempered Lagiacrus’s weaknesses:

Elemental Weaknesses

  • Fire
  • Ice
  • Dragon

Status Weaknesses

  • Poison
  • Sleep
  • Blast
  • Exhaust

Items To Carry

  • Mega Potions
  • Ancient Potion
  • Nulberry
  • Flash Pod
  • Energy Drink (essential for Dual Blade and Bow users)
  • Farcaster
  • Shock Trap
  • Pitfall Trap

Here are some tips that should help you defeat the Tempered Lagiacrus:

  • Tempered Lagiacrus mostly uses the same attacks as the regular variant. However, similar to other Tempered Monsters, it does become enraged quite early and stays that way for a long time. As such, having the Agitator helps against this monster. Furthermore, remember to keep the Flash Pods equipped, as it will allow you to stun Lagiacrus out of its grab or slam attack animations.
  • The biggest issue with Tempered Lagiacrus is its lightning discharge. The monster essentially deals a ton of passive lightning damage when it charges its back crystals. The passive damage is so potent that it can deplete your HP, even if you’re using a Lance or Gunlance’s Shield to block it. The only viable way we found to avoid this attack is dodging away from the monster.
  • While you can use any status ailment, we found most success with Blast, Paralysis, and Dragon. Although the Field Guide mentions Paralysis as least effective against Lagiacrus, it still works quite well against it. However, the most efficient elemental status against Tempered Lagiacrus is Dragonblight. It not only deals bonus damage but also staggers the monster periodically.
  • Lastly, once Lagiacrus moves underwater, remember to use Piercing Pods and Slinger grab attacks to deal as much damage to the monster’s head as possible. As soon as Lagiacrus moves underwater, you can head in and drop the rock structure right behind it. This deals a good amount of damage to the monster and also leaves it staggered for a few seconds.
  • While slaying the monster is always an option, due to how aggressive Tempered Lagiacrus gets during the final phase of the battle, we recommend capturing it instead. Unless you’re after a specific monster part, capturing it is always the better option as it’s faster, and also lets you completely skip the final phase of the fight.

Additional Notes

While you can use Blastblight as well, against Lagiacrus, we found Dragon to be more effective if you want to deal passive damage. We highly recommend using Zoh Shia’s weapons with at least one point in Scorcher. That weapon and skill combo lets you deal Dragon and Fire damage at the same time, which helps easily melt Lagiacrus’s HP.
