Fast traveling is one of the easiest ways to get across different parts of the Zone in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The game encourages reaching different parts of the map by walking to properly immerse players in Stalker 2’s world. However, sometimes it’s just not worth trekking long stretches of land just to complete an optional quest or gather some resources. This is where fast travel comes in incredibly handy. With the Zone being stretched across 60 square kilometers, it’s not easy to get across different parts of the map simply by walking. Thankfully, fast traveling in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a pretty straightforward process.

Although fast traveling unlocks quite early in the game, it’s still something you can totally miss out on if you aren’t paying attention to the game’s contextual tutorials and hints. Here’s a comprehensive guide going over how to fast travel in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

How To Unlock Fast Travel in Stalker 2

To fast travel across the Zone in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, you will need to make sure of two things. First, you need to ensure that you have already been to the places you want to fast travel to. Furthermore, you also need to ensure that the different destinations you want to fast travel to have a Guide.

For the uninitiated, Guides are special NPCs present in various parts of the Zone. The Guides are the only NPCs capable of sending someone between different locations instantly. You can determine if a particular location has a Guide by checking the map and looking for the Reticle icon. If a place has the Reticle icon above it, you can fast travel to it.

Do note that you can only fast travel between different places if they have Guides. If you want to get to a place that doesn’t have a Guide, you can fast travel to the nearest settlement and make your way to your objective from there. Furthermore, you can also ask around different NPCs in a settlement for the Guide. It should be noted that Guides are automatically unlocked in key areas of the map, like Zalissya and Scrag Heap.

Is Fast Travel Free in Stalker 2

Unlike in other open-world action games, a la Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Dying Light, etc., fast traveling in Stalker 2 isn’t free—or cheap, for that matter. The price of using a Guide to fast travel between locations increases as you progress through the story. However, to travel to and fro between the opening two zones, you will have to shell out 1,500 Coupons.

Given how limited resources are in Stalker 2, especially at the start, getting that many Coupons isn’t an easy task. Furthermore, Coupons are not only used for fast travel but, as the primary currency in the game, are also necessary for weapon upgrades and other resources.

As such, fast travel is only meant to be used as a last resort. You can minimize the need to fast travel by properly exploring, completing all the optional quests, and getting all upgrades in one area before moving to the next. That way, you won’t feel the need to fast travel to earlier regions unless absolutely necessary.
