Elden Ring Nightreign is home to some pretty cool secrets that you can easily miss out on while chasing the Nightlords. However, if you do take the time to explore these uncharted locations of Limveld, you will be rewarded with some of the most powerful loot in the game. Some of the best locations in the game only appear during the Shifting Earth events. These are random events that can occur when you defeat a Nightlord. While these locations are filled with powerful bosses, defeating them is also the surefire way to get the most amount of Runes as well as better weapons. Furthermore, some of these locations are also home to altars that you can use to upgrade your weapons to Legendary.

One such location is the Crater, which can appear after defeating Galdius and Adel. Here’s everything you need to know about the secret of the Crater in Elden Ring Nightreign, how to reach it, and more.

The Crater only appears when there’s a Shifting Earth event on Limveld. For those who might be unaware, Shifting Earth comprises random events that can appear on the map of Limveld at regular intervals after defeating a set amount of Nightlords or defeating the final boss. These events open up an entirely new part of the map to explore featuring new enemies, as well as incredibly powerful loot (often of the Legendary tier). However, due to these areas being secret, the enemies here are incredibly difficult and can only be defeated after you’ve reached Day 2 and hit at least Level 10. You can do these areas on Day 1, but attempting them on Day 2 is ideal.

The Crater can be found to the south of Limveld, only during a Shifting Earth event. It’s essentially a modified and condensed version of Mount Gelmir from the original Elden Ring. Additionally, just like Gelmir and Volcano Manor, the Crater features some really tricky platforming sections. However, if you complete the secret of this area, you will be rewarded with incredibly powerful loot.

To complete the Secret of the Crater, simply head to the center of the location. At the bottom of the Crater, you will find a Valiant Gargoyle. Run past the Gargoyle quickly and climb up the beams that lead you to the platform on the west. Navigate the platform until you reach a Fire Prelate boss. Defeat the boss, level up, and keep heading west. You will find a hole in the floor that takes you to the lower floor. Drop through the hole and make your way to the west. You will once again face a herd of Fire Monks. Defeat the enemies and proceed west, and look for a platform at the edge to drop down to. Once you drop another floor, proceed northwest using the bridge.

Follow the path until you reach a cavalry of Flaming Chariots. You can choose to kill the Chariots or simply run past them to reach another Fire Prelate boss, guarded by two Fire Monks. Defeat the boss to level up and progress. Lastly, you will reach a section at the lowest end of the Crater with a Magma Wyrm boss. Defeat the Magma Wyrm to unlock the Crater’s secret. The Magma Wyrm is extremely weak to Frost and Bleed. Having a Ranged character (Ironeye) and an Executor in the team really helps against this boss.

After defeating the Magma Wyrm, interact with the altar in the arena. Using the altar will allow you to upgrade any one of your equipped weapons to Legendary, and hence make you incredibly powerful for the Nightlord of the Expedition.
