Emerald is one of the rarest minerals in Prospecting, and finding it is a key step in progressing through important quests like Prospector’s Bet and Special Order 2. If you’ve been digging for hours without a trace of it, don’t worry, there’s a method to increase your odds, and this guide will walk you through it.

Where To Find Emerald in Prospecting

Emerald is classified as an epic rarity drop, so you won’t find it just anywhere. Stick to these areas when you’re hunting for it:

  • Rubble Creek Sands
  • Rubble Creek Deposits
  • Fortune River
  • Crystal Cavern River
  • Azraelite Oasis

From experience, Fortune River tends to offer the best chance. Focus on the main digging area near the wooden docks, not the delta. Emerald does not spawn in Sunset Beach or Fortune River Delta, so avoid those entirely.

Use a Better Pan To Improve Your Odds

Even if your shovel is good, your Pan makes a big difference. It boosts mineral rarity and improves modifiers like size and value. If you’re still using the default Pan, upgrade as soon as possible.

Here’s the Pan progression with prices:

PanPriceLuck
Silver Pan$55,0004
Magnetic Pan$1,000,00015
Diamond Pan$10,000,00035

Higher-tier pans, e.g., the Magnetic or Diamond pans, are better at catching rare minerals, including Emerald. Pair them with a solid shovel to avoid bottlenecks in your setup.

How To Enchant Your Pan

Once you have Aurorite, you can enchant your pan to add bonuses like extra luck or capacity. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the enchantment table near the Archaeologist’s tent.
  2. Hold the E key to interact.
  3. Choose “Use this to enchant my pan.”
  4. Click “Yes” to confirm.

Enchantments are random, and some are extremely rare but powerful. A few worth mentioning:

  • Lucky: +5 Luck (10% chance)
  • Blessed: +25 Capacity, +10 Luck (1% chance)

Enchanting isn’t guaranteed to give you what you want right away, but it can push your luck just enough to make a difference when you’re targeting Emerald.

Stack Luck With These Methods

Emerald isn’t just about location and gear, you’ll want to raise your luck stat to improve your drop chances. Besides pan enchantments, here are four ways to stack your luck:

  • Dig near Luck Totems placed by other players. They boost drop rates in a radius.
  • Use Luck Potions, if you’ve earned or found any.
  • Dig during meteor showers, when rare drops are boosted across the map.
  • Use higher-tier pans, as mentioned earlier.

When you stack all of these, good location, upgraded pan, enchantments, and temporary buffs, your chances improve significantly.

Should You Sell Emerald?

Once you find Emerald, you might be tempted to sell it for cash. Don’t. Emerald is required for some of the most important quests in the game. You’ll eventually need multiple pieces for Prospector’s Bet and Special Order 2 from the Trader NPC, both of which give a permanent buff of 10% more money on items you sell.

Some More Tips

  • Stay consistent with your location. Keep digging at Fortune River until you get it.
  • Upgrade your pan and enchant it early.
  • Time your sessions during meteor showers if possible, or choose a populated server; people might put luck and strength totems.
  • Dig with purpose, not just for money, but for progression.

Finding Emerald is tough, but if you follow the right approach, it becomes a lot more manageable.
