Discover how to enter The Sewers in Stardew Valley and learn about the unique characters, areas, and items they contain.

The Sewers in Stardew Valley are a hidden area with rare items, unique services, and a monster merchant. However, accessing them isn’t possible from the start. Gaining entry requires a specific in-game milestone, and knowing how to reach it can give you an edge early on. This guide will walk you through every step to accessing and exploring The Sewers.
How To Open The Sewers in Stardew Valley

To unlock The Sewers in Stardew Valley, you require the Rusty Key. Gunther delivers the key to you after you have donated at least 60 artifacts or minerals to the Museum. The fastest way to make these donations is to head into the mine and gather Geodes before cracking them at the blacksmith’s. Once enough Geodes have been cracked, you will have 60 unique items to donate to the Museum. Once you have made the donations, head back home, and Gunther should visit you the following day.
Upon receiving the Rusty Key, head south of Pelican Town to find the entrance to The Sewers. Surrounded by a wooden fence, the entrance is a grey grate on the ground with the word “SEWER” engraved on it. Once the entrance is opened, it can be accessed at any time.
What Do The Sewers Contain?

Inside The Sewers, you’ll find Krobus’ shop to the right and the Statue of Uncertainty on the left. The statue allows you to change your profession with a donation of 10,000g. Interact with the statue to choose one skill to change, and the new profession selection screen will appear upon going to bed that night.
In addition to his rotating stock, Krobus sells one Stardrop along with a Wicked Statue and Crystal Floor recipe. He is also the only friendly monster in the game and can be given gifts. You can gift him Black Licorice to improve Friendship. He cannot be married, but he can become your roommate.
The Sewers are the only place to fish for the Mutant Carp and Radioactive Carp. After beginning the ‘Dark Talisman’ quest, talk to Krobus to open a passage to the Mutant Bug Lair, an endgame dungeon crawling with bugs and home to a unique fish, the Slimejack.
