Grow a Garden Guide: Maelstrom Mutation
Overview: Appearance and Value Multiplier
Mutations in Grow a Garden are very important and are the primary way you can boost the value of your crop. They also change the appearance of the crop in question. The Maelstrom mutation is no different and adds a pretty big multiplier to your crop. Here is a breakdown of how the mutation works:
- Multiplier: The Maelstrom mutation adds a 100x multiplier to the value of the crop.
- Appearance: It also changes the appearance of the crop and turns it neon blue with water droplets dripping from it. Blue particles appear to be attracted to the affected crop as well.
How To Obtain the Malestrom Mutation
The Maelstrom is a complex mutation and is formed when two other mutations combine. You need to have a crop that has both the Tempestuous as well as the Cyclonic mutations to get it. Like other complex mutations, such as the Paradisal mutation, the Maelstrom mutation removes both Tempestuous and Cyclonic mutations from the crop and replaces them. Here is a breakdown of how to get them.
Cyclonic Mutation Guide

The Cyclonic mutation is quite a rare one. As of the current patch, Grow a Garden players can only get this from the Griffin Pet. You can find the Griffin by opening the Skyroot Chest, obtainable during the Beanstalk Event. There is a 1% chance for the chest to drop the pet, so you will either have to keep crafting or buying it from the Giant Goliath’s Friendship Shop to get it.
The Griffin’s main ability is to occasionally apply the Cyclonic mutation to crops in your garden.
Tempestuous Mutation
This is also a very rare mutation. As of the current patch, it requires you to have these two mutations:
- Windstruck: Crops in your garden can get this during Windy or Gale weather events.
- Twisted: The Tornado weather event can apply this randomly to crops in your garden.
Alternatively, you can try to get the Pterodactyl pet. It can apply both of these mutations and can massively help you get a Tempestuous crop.
