Many players might wonder if they can get married in Oblivion Remastered. In this article, we will try to answer that question.

The release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was a pleasant surprise for old and new fans alike. With this title, Bethesda aims to transport players back to 2006 and let them explore the world of Cyrodiil with some major upgrades, such as enhanced graphical fidelity and an overhauled UI. Other than that, another notable aspect of the original RPG was its companions.
However, unlike many modern IPs, Elder Scrolls IV did not allow players to marry their companions or engage in any romantic activity. And since Bethesda’s latest release stays true to its 2006 counterpart, players won’t be able to get married in Oblivion Remastered.
Why Aren’t Players Able to Marry in Oblivion Remastered?

Yes, it is quite true that players won’t be able to marry any of their companions in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and there is a reason for that. As the name suggests, the original Oblivion was the fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls series, released in 2006. At this point in time, the franchise lacked romance mechanics. So, players had no option to marry a companion in an Elder Scrolls RPG.
Bethesda introduced the marriage mechanic first in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2011, five years after the release of Oblivion. Since the latest Oblivion Remastered stays true to the original, the developers decided not to incorporate the marriage mechanics, as it would have deviated the enhanced version from the 2006 counterpart. In addition to that, the studio refrained from adding any new mechanics to the 2025 release and only added graphical upgrades and other small tweaks and enhancements.
Many hardcore or veteran Elder Scrolls fans might appreciate the lack of a marriage or romance mechanic in 2025’s Oblivion Remastered. However, it can also be frustrating for newcomers due to their familiarity with modern RPGs.
Oblivion Remastered’s Various Enhancements

As we discussed briefly, Oblivion Remastered does not feature any new mechanics and follows the path of the original strictly. But that does not mean that players won’t get to see something new in the 2025 release. Oblivion Remastered runs on Unreal Engine 5, so after starting the game, both old and new players will experience its enhanced graphics and visuals.
In addition to that, Virtuos Studios has overhauled Oblivion’s UI completely, and has managed to present something that many have described to be “new and modernized yet reminiscent of the original title”. The new UI is clean, simple, and accessible, yet it successfully recreates the visual language of the original Elder Scrolls IV.
Furthermore, the combat, lockpicking, and camera functions have also received some polishing and tweaks. However, other than that, Oblivion Remastered is the same game that many enjoyed in 2006, with all the DLC and Expansions.
