Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s game modes, including details on how to play in the game in single-player.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a very different game compared to the original Elden Ring. Instead of employing the traditional souls-like formula of FromSoftware’s past games, Nightreign uses a more “rogue-like” approach to its progression. That being said, at its core, it still has the same old Elden Ring/Dark Souls DNA. You’re still constantly pitted against insurmountable odds, only to emerge with the power of level-appropriate gear, weapon arts, dodge rolling, and friendship (co-op). In the case of Nightreign, the game is mostly focused on the multiplayer and co-operative aspects. The game incentivizes playing with a team, which becomes crucial when you are faced with some of the endgame bosses.
That being said, there’s still a dedicated single-player mode in Nightreign. However, it’s not enabled by default. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s single-player mode and how to play the game solo.
How To Play Elden Ring Nightreign Solo

There are two different ways to play Elden Ring Nightreign in single-player, Online Solo and Offline Solo. If you want to play the game offline, you will have to change the Startup Settings under Gameplay to Offline. Once you make the changes, restart the game, and it will boot in offline mode. From there, simply head to the Roundtable Hold and launch an Expedition. For Online Solo, you need to be in the online mode and near the Roundtable Hold. At the Roundtable, before you start an Expedition, head to the Matchmaking Settings and choose Single-Player. After that, head back to the Expeditions menu and launch an Expedition.
In single-player, the game reduces the amount of health the enemies and bosses have. However, their aggression, as well as the overall pacing of the game, remains identical across single-player and multiplayer modes. In single-player, you can also purchase a special item that allows you to revive yourself once after dying to a boss. You can also purchase this item from the merchant on Day 3, before heading to the Nightlord.
Is Playing Elden Ring Nightreign in Single-Player Worth It?

Although Nightreign does have a dedicated single-player mode, it’s not designed to be played solo. Think of it like Destiny 2 or Helldivers 2. It’s a game that can be played solo but is at its best when played with a group of friends. That being said, if you’re looking to challenge yourself, the single-player mode is a great option. Furthermore, when it comes to completing the Nightfarer Remembrance quests, the single-player mode is incredibly helpful.
To reiterate though, Nightreign is best played in multiplayer. Most of the bosses and even mob encounters are designed around multiplayer. As such, going for the single-layer mode isn’t recommended.
