Contains are the primary means to gain materials, camping supplies, weapons, and armour in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, they can be tough to spot and find, and you don’t want to miss any on your journey. In this guide, we will give you tips on finding a variety of containers in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Find Containers in Baldur’s Gate 3

The best way to find containers in Baldur’s Gate 3 is using the Show Item Labels key bind, Left Alt, on PC. This displays text names above various containers, making them easier to spot. However, some containers will not be labeled, thus requiring you to mouse over or highlight to display a treasure symbol. When the treasure symbol is gold, the container has something within it. When the container is empty, it will display a treasure but a dull greyish color, symbolizing it’s empty. Additionally, if the container is red, it is private and unsafe to loot. You can hide, stealth, or risk looting and being detected which will result in consequences.

Another helpful tip to seeing contains is using the tactical view camera angle. Pressing O on PC turns the camera above you centered, so you can mouse over specific locations and not miss any loot. Therefore, as you explore, make sure to pan, zoom out, and rotate your camera. Many containers will not be seen unless you have a clear line of sight and tactical camera view can help.

Types of Containers

Below are various types of Containers and what they are used for in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Bags and Pouches: these are lightweight storage items that can be helpful to store within characters inventory. For instance, consider using a pouch to store all of your arrows and ammunition, then placing it on your hot bar.
  • Chests: large storage items that are helpful for storing many items. Additionally, you have large storage at your camp, so don’t consider taking a chest unless you want to decorate.
  • Interactive Clutter: these are wooden barrels, and crates, that are hard to detect and require you to mouse over or interact to see if lootable.
  • Static Clutter: these are stationary and cannot be taken like Fish Barrels, Loose Planks, and Bottle Racks.
  • Other: unique to individual companions or quests.
  • Story Containers: these are Alchemy Pouch, Camp Supply Sack, and Key Chain used throughout the game.

Containers and storage can be found at your campsite. In the bottom left of the Baldur’s Gate 3 User Interface, players can find their containers for storage by clicking the icon. This includes an inventory tab with containers at the top next to characters icons. Each player within the campaign will have their storage, which can be accessible using this screen or by pressing a tab on a PC.

When storing massive items, quickly travel back to your camp if you’re encumbered or overturned by weight. Store all your materials in a container or chest, then travel back. Locate a vendor or merchant, then repeat the process, except load-up on every item. When you select exit camp, you will be on top of a vendor ready to sell without having to move!

Hidden Containers and Chest

To spot hidden chests and containers, make sure to take the wisdom-based skill Perception. This skill makes it more likely that they will succeed on Perception Checks to spot hidden objects or creatures. Characters can select proficiency bonuses in character creation or throughout leveling, and this Wisdom skill is essential for exploration. Consider that every Cleric or Druid should use this skill to make looting, finding, and locating chests and containers much easier.

Additionally, the Githyanki race can use Astral Knowledge racial passive to gain proficiency in all skills of a certain ability score. Therefore, a Githyanki can always have a +2 bonus to perception, even with a 10 Wisdom score.
