This guide explains everything about the most sought-after feature in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2), Shapeshifting, and how it works.

Shapeshifting is one of the most requested features in Path of Exile 2. When compared to the prequel, Path of Exile 2 has brought many new changes and unique features, and shapeshifting is one of them. Yes, you can transform into a demonic or animalistic figure in Path of Exile 2 through shapeshifting. The Early Access for PoE2, which launched recently, is available to players who purchase any of the six supporter packs.
Currently, there is only one way to shapeshift in Early Access. The Infernalist ascendancy of the Witch class allows players to transform into a literal demon. By unlocking the ‘Demonic Possession’ node, the Witch gains access to the ‘Demon Form’ skill. This allows her to transform into a Demon. In Demon form, she benefits from increased cast speed and damage. However, there is a drawback that she takes more damage in this form. As of now, this is the only method to shapeshift in Path of Exile 2.

Will There Be Any Other Shapeshifting Options in Path of Exile 2

Beyond the Witch, another class is set to get the shapeshifting option—the Druid. While the class is not available in the early access, it is expected to feature as another shapeshifting option in the full launch.
At Gamescom 2023, Jonathan Rogers, one of the game directors of Path of Exile 2, presented a 13-minute gameplay video featuring the Druid class. The presentation highlighted the Druid’s shapeshifting abilities, showing the player seamlessly transforming between a bear and a human. Additionally, he mentioned that the Wolf form is not shown in the presentation, which hints that we can also expect a Wolf-form shapeshifting.
The first iteration of shapeshifting in Path of Exile 2 was revealed back during a showcase in ExileCon 2019, where the Ranger was shown transforming into a Werewolf. Since then, the shapeshifting system has been reworked. While the Ranger is available as one of the six playable classes in Early Access, she lacks any transforming or shapeshifting mechanics. Hopefully, the future updates will answer all our questions regarding Druid’s shapeshifting abilities and whether there will be additional shapeshifting options.
