How To Star Unlock in Umamusume Pretty Derby
You must navigate to the ‘Enhance’ menu and click on the Trainees button. Here, you will have the option to Star Unlock your characters. The minimum level a character can have is one star, while the maximum is five stars. You will need the following number of Star Pieces to upgrade your characters to the following ranks:
- 2-star: 50 Star Pieces
- 3-star: 150 Star Pieces
- 4-star: 350 Star Pieces
- 5-star: 650 Star Pieces
You normally acquire Star Pieces through obtaining a particular unit through Scouts. However, doing special events (like Legends Races) is another good way to earn these Star Pieces. You get to learn more about acquiring Star Pieces for a character here.

Why Should You Star Unlock Your Characters in Umamusume Pretty Derby?
There are a multitude of reasons why you should Star Unlock your characters. Firstly, your character’s base stats get boosted. Secondly, at the third star level, they acquire a unique skill that they can pass down through the legacy system. Upgrading them beyond three stars will level up this unique skill to even higher ranks. There is no reason to hold off on performing a Star Unlock for your characters. Doing so only makes them better.
