Rockstar Games officially announced a way to migrate your GTA 5 story mode save game from the legacy to the enhanced version of the game. However, there are certain limitations to this process. This is why you need to be aware of the process to avoid problems like corrupting your Story Mode progress or losing it entirely.
If you are planning on downloading the GTA 5 Enhanced update, it is advisable to transfer your saved file. This way, you get to keep your single-player progress in the game and experience it with graphical improvements.

Steps on How To Migrate GTA 5 Story Mode Progress to Enhanced Edition
Before you start, make sure you have a reliable internet connection. This ensures you don’t end up with a corrupted save file while transferring your Story Mode progress. Follow these instructions to complete the migration:
How To Upload Your GTA V Story Mode Save for Migration
- Open GTA V Legacy on your PC.
- Access the Pause Menu in-game.
- Navigate to Game and select Upload Save Game.
- Choose the save file you want to migrate, then click Upload Save Game.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Verify that this is the correct Story Mode save before proceeding.
- Wait for the upload to complete.
- Once the upload is successful, you’ll receive a confirmation message from Rockstar Games.
If you want, you can always come back and update your Story Mode save file. Simply follow the same process. However, it will override the save game you previously uploaded. Furthermore, these files will only stay for a total of 90 days. Afterward, they will be removed, and you will need to upload another save game.

Download Save Game to GTA 5 Enhanced
To migrate your save game file to the GTA 5 Enhanced version, simply launch the game and download your Story Mode progress through the in-game Pause Menu.
- Open GTA V Enhanced on your PC.
- Access the Pause Menu in-game.
- Navigate to Game and select Download Save Game.
- Choose the Story Mode Save Game you want to download.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Verify your selection and proceed.
- Wait for the download to complete, then confirm the successful download message.
- The game will automatically load your Story Mode Save Game.
