Find out how you should go about solving the riddles to unlock the Gilded Box in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
As you progress through Silent Hill 2 Remake’s main story, you will eventually encounter a Gilded Box, that requires a special code to unlock. However, to get this code, you need to solve some fairly convoluted riddles. Although this might seem easy on paper, it’s quite challenging since you only get a single chance to solve these riddles.
The Gilded Box is located inside the “Otherworld” version of the Brookhaven Hospital, which is triggered after the boss fight against Flesh Lips. Meanwhile, the riddles include three questions, each with three subsequent options that James gets to choose from. However, if you exit Brookhaven Hospital before unlocking the Gilded Box, you won’t get another chance at it.
The game doesn’t provide any hints to help you solve the riddles. Moreover, if you do manage to make your way to the Gilded Box and input the wrong code, you will be swarmed by a horde of enemies. Where to find the Gilded Box in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Gilded Box is on the first floor of the Otherworld version of the Brookhaven Hospital. However, the room that houses the Box isn’t unlocked until after you’ve heard the riddles. As you progress through the Hospital, you will eventually come across a chained box, which you need to unlock to progress. This box will give you an elevator key, which you will need to ride the elevator to the Hospital’s basement. Inside the elevator, you will be greeted with what seems like a “talk show” that talks about James’ experience in the town of Silent Hill.
The talk show host then asks three questions. These questions are the riddles, which ultimately unlock the Gilded Box. Once you’ve heard the riddles, the elevator reaches the basement. However, before exiting the elevator, you can use it to return to the first floor. Here, you will find a room right beside the elevator, which houses the Gilded Box with a keypad.
How to Solve the Riddles for the Gilded Box Code
The elevator quiz, “Trick or Treat,” includes three questions that are based on general Silent Hill lore and history. Hence, you can easily figure out the answers to these questions if you’ve brushed up on your Silent Hill lore. Or, you can simply go through this article to get all the answers you need. There’s also a save point right before you hop into the elevator, and if you do happen to miss out on getting the Gilded Box, you can simply reload your previous save to unlock it.

Based on the answers, the code for the Gilded Box, aka the Trick or Treat Box is – 231. Enter this code in the keypad to unlock the box and grab its contents. The Gilded Box contains Some Shotgun Shells and a couple of Syringes. While the ammunition and healing items you get aren’t much, solving the riddles is its own reward. Furthermore, having a few extra Syringes might come incredibly handy in the next area you’re going to be visiting, the Toluca Prison.
