The Demon Slayer manga series has gained widespread popularity over the last few years, all thanks to the anime adaptation. Its anime is one of the best modern Shonen adaptations with top-tier animation and voice acting. Given the anime adaptation’s quality, this seems to be the medium of choice for new fans. For the Demon Slayer anime, the manga chapters are the source material. Therefore, the content featured in the anime is revealed much later since adaptation of the manga takes time.

Anime-only fans should know that the Demon Slayer manga completed its run in 2020. Chapter 205 marked the end of the series as Koyoharu Gotouge wrapped up with a quick epilogue featuring a time skip. Given that the series has concluded, the nature of the ending becomes a topic of conversation among netizens because plenty of modern anime titles don’t always necessarily end on a good note.

Does Demon Slayer Have a Happy Ending?

Yes, the Demon Slayer manga has a happy ending. However, the ending is more bittersweet than just happy. The demon hunters banded together and defeated Kibutsuji Muzan, the Demon King. But this came at a massive price. Giyu Tomioka and Sanemi Shinazugawa were the only ones remaining among all the Hashira. The Demon Slayer Corps suffered the loss of many demon hunters. On the bright side, Tanjiro Kamao, Inosuke Hashirbira, Nezuko Kamado, and Zenitsu Agatsuma made it out alive.

Tanjiro had a close call since Muzan transferred all of his blood to him, and he became the most powerful demon who conquered the sun and had access to the most powerful Breathing Technique. However, Kanao Tsuyuri was quick on her feet and injected Tanjiro with a medicine that Shinobu had made. The Demon Slayer Corps was disbanded since there weren’t any demons left. Based on what was shown in the epilogue, the demon hunters had a happy ending. They seemed to have explored their romantic relationships and even had descendants.

This clearly indicated that those who remained after the final battle lived a happy life. Their lives were certainly better because demons no longer terrorized the people around them. The ending can undoubtedly be considered happy despite the price they were forced to pay for their victory over Kibutsuji Muzan.

How Much of Demon Slayer is Left to be Animated?

Although the manga has concluded, the anime still has to adapt two story arcs — the Infinity Castle arc and the Sunrise Countdown arc. These two arcs mark the story’s final section, covering an all-out war between the demons and the demon hunters.

At the time of writing, the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle arc is currently under production. However, things will be slightly different as Ufotable will not release weekly episodes. This section of the story will be presented in the form of movies. This story arc has 44 chapters. Following this, the Sunrise Countdown arc has 22 chapters. So, 66 chapters are left to be animated, which Ufotable will complete in the coming years.

The latest season was set aside for the Hashira Training arc. It had plenty of anime-original scenes. However, Ufotable will most likely refrain from doing so because there’s plenty of content in the manga for them to work with.

Everything We Know About the Infinity Castle Arc

As mentioned, the Infinity Castle arc is currently in the production stage. This arc will be presented as three films, which will adapt all 44 chapters. The pacing will be excellent should Ufotable maintain the high standards that they have set. This is because the manga features some of the most interesting fight sequences involving the remaining Upper Moon demons.

We will also see the Hashira in action as they take on Muzan’s lackeys. That said, Zenitsu Agatsuma will be the talking point of the trilogy because he takes on an Upper Moon demon while being fully conscious the entire time. Furthermore, he also reveals a form of Thunder Breathing Technique that he created. We will also see Gyomei Himejima, the strongest Hashira, fighting against the Upper Moon 1 demon.

The Possibility of a Demon Slayer sequel

Although many have discussed the possibility of a sequel on various platforms, it is unlikely that it will be created. The sequel can take a slice-of-life route, covering the daily events of all the descendants/reincarnates. Since they attend high school, the setting is perfect for a comedy or coming-of-age show. This would stray from the Shonen formula the original series followed.

A small number of readers/viewers might object to the slice-of-life approach. However, Gotouge’s writing could cater to a large extent of the current fanbase. That said, the author hasn’t issued any statement concerning the series’ future or sequel being in the works. Therefore, the likelihood of a sequel series being released is slim.

Conclusion

The Demon Slayer manga completed its run with 205 chapters, and only two more story arcs are left to be animated. Both the story arcs put together account for 66 chapters. The upcoming arc is in the production stage and will be presented as a trilogy of movies. The likelihood of the sequel is low despite the areas that can be explored within the overarching story. However, the manga author could release a one-shot exploring the life of Yoriichi Tsukiguni and how he created Breathing Techniques. This is an interesting topic that all fans will certainly enjoy.
