Here is all we know about whether GTA 5 online has crossplay or will ever have this feature in the foreseeable future.
GTA 5 Online is not crossplay compatible, as you can only play with other players on the same platform. Despite being a decade old, Rockstar Games has yet to consider adding this feature to the game. However, it does make sense, considering how the game has been released on multiple platforms. This means each version would have to receive an update to support crossplay, which could take time and resources. We’ll just have to hope GTA 6 will feature crossplay so we can play with other players on different platforms.

Wil GTA 5 Receive Crossplay Feature
As of now, Rockstar Games has not announced any plans to introduce crossplay compatibility for GTA 5 Online. The game has thrived for over a decade, with millions of active players across various platforms. However, the developers have not considered adding crossplay to the game despite modern titles implementing crossplay. Even between sister platforms like PS4 and PS5, these platforms are not crossplay compatible with each other, despite being part of the same ecosystem.
Why GTA 5 Online Might Not Get Crossplay
There might be a good reason why GTA 5 may not need crossplay either way. One reason is that it already has a stable player count. There are plenty of players for each platform. This means a crossplay feature is less needed, as each community is already lively without it. Not worrying about crossplay could also prevent issues such as balancing gameplay across different hardware capabilities, addressing potential security risks, and managing compatibility problems that often arise when integrating multiple platforms.
Another reason crossplay might not be on Rockstar Games’ agenda for GTA 5 Online is the upcoming release of GTA 6. The developers may be focusing their resources on the next installment. Who knows, we might get crossplay on GTA 6 when it launches with online multiplayer.
However, all these are entirely speculative. We will have to wait for GTA 6 Trailer 2 and hope they reveal important details about the game.
