Is Kawaki a villain in Boruto? Take a look at the character’s role, origins, and relationship with the main characters.
Kawaki is one of the most popular characters in the Boruto anime and manga series. His role in the story has changed on multiple occasions. Therefore, many discussions on various social media platforms and forums revolve around him. His powers and abilities make him popular among fans. However, the manner in which the Two Blue Vortex manga is progressing left fans scratching their heads.
Kawaki and Boruto were inseparable during the earlier parts of the series. The former has a very good relationship with Naruto because he was treated fairly and was given a chance to do something with his life. However, things went south when Momoshiki completely took over Boruto’s body.
This threatened Naruto’s life, and Kawaki was forced to intervene. Fans have questioned Kawaki’s actions and response. This begs the question – is Kawaki a villain in Boruto? No, Kawaki is not a villain in Boruto. His actions were taken in service of Naruto’s safety. Furthermore, the series is yet to reveal the main antagonist since there are plenty of contenders.
Kawaki’s Origin in the Boruto Series
Kawaki was born to an abusive father in the series. He was forced to work and bring back the money to his father. The money was for the father to buy more alcohol. His abusive tendencies only increased as the series progressed. A monk named Jigen paid Kawaki’s father a large sum of money to take the child away. Kawaki had no say in this matter, and his father hit him again. The father accepted the money, and Jigen took him away. This is how Kawaki was introduced to the Kara and became an Otsutsuki vessel.
Kawaki proceeded to develop Karma and underwent gruesome training routines set by Jigen. He hated his life when he was a part of this organization. Kawaki was meant to be Isshiki Otsutsuki’s vessel. He developed a deep hatred for the Otsutsuki Clan. His hatred can be observed during the course of the series.
However, he was rescued by Konohagakure. Kawaki managed to break free from this organization. Furthermore, Naruto Uzumaki adopted him. The Seventh Hokage became a father figure for him. This is why Kawaki goes to great lengths to keep Naruto safe.
Kawaki’s Heroic Acts in Boruto
Kawaki received plenty of screen time in the anime series. There were plenty of anime-original scenes involving him as well. One of Kawaki’s earliest heroic acts involves his intervention during Delta’s attack. Ino was the leader of the Sensory Unit, and she alerted Naruto about an intruder. This intruder was none other than Delta, one of the Inner members of the Kara. The Seventh Hokage engaged in a fight. While things were going in Naruto’s favor, Delta released laser beams from her eye. These could quite literally kill the Hokage if it touched him. Kawaki not only shielded Naruto but also saved Himawari from Delta’s attacks.
Kawaki was assigned various missions after he became an official member of Team 7. Another prominent heroic act was seen in the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure arc. Here, he took on Araumi and defeated him as well. Kawaki also protected Kae in the Kawaki and Himawari Academy arc. These are some of the numerous heroic acts that we can see in the anime and manga series. He has protected Naruto and Himawari on numerous occasions, showing his allegiance to the Uzumaki family.
Kawaki’s Villanous Acts
As mentioned earlier, fans have questioned Kawaki’s role in the series. The reason for this is due to some of his villainous actions in the series. There is one particular event in the Naruto Next Generations manga that highlighted Kawaki’s determination. Fans considered him evil for what he did to Boruto in the manga series. He knew that Naruto wouldn’t allow anyone to harm Boruto, even when he became a full-fledged Otsutsuki. Kawaki took matters into his own hands and used his Sukunahikona to enter the Seventh Hokage’s house without being detected.
He proceeded to inform the Seventh Hokage that he intended to kill Boruto. Naturally, Naruto was not okay with this outcome, and Hinata slapped Kawaki for stating his intentions. Since the couple didn’t accept the terms, Kawaki sealed them in a different dimension – Daikokuten. The Hokage’s chakra signature was no longer detected. Therefore, the entire village panicked and assumed that Naruto and Hinata died. This event triggered a manhunt.
Subsequently, he used Eida’s love for him to get a favorable outcome. He manipulated her into helping him. She used her Omnipotence to swap Kawaki’s place with Boruto. The entire village now attempted to hunt down Boruto, forcing him to flee the village for the next three years. These are some of Kawaki’s villainous acts in the manga series.
Kawaki’s Status as a Villain Disputed
Kawki’s role as a villain in the Animanga series is disputed for an important reason. Of late, his actions haven’t been heroic in any sense. He is a coward for asking Eida to help him, and he also lets the village think that Naruto is dead. However, the reason for sealing Naruto was to protect him from Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Kawaki’s loyalty lies with Naruto, and he is determined to put his life on the line if it means that he can save Naruto and everything that is dear to him. Furthermore, the series has introduced other antagonists, and it’s very unlikely that he would turn out to become one in the series.
Kawaki’s Relationship With Naruto and Boruto
Kawaki respects Naruto because he receives the opportunity to live a life filled with purpose. He is ready to sacrifice his own life if he needs to save the Seventh Hokage’s life. However, some fans might think that he hates Boruto. But that is not the case. Kawaki realizes that the only way to kill Momoshiki is to kill Boruto, whom he considers his brother. They are rivals who push each other to become stronger. They have a great deal of respect for each other. However, that relationship might have suffered a bit during the course of the Two Blue Vortex manga series.
Conclusion
Kawaki is an entertaining character who isn’t a villain in the series. His role seems to morph as the story progresses. While he wants to save the village and his mentor, the only way to achieve this goal is by killing Boruto. That being said, the story will most likely reveal a way to get rid of Momoshiki without having to kill Boruto. This will revert Kawaki to being a deuteragonist in the series.
