Scheduled for a worldwide release soon on Nintendo Switch 2, Donkey Kong Bananza will, fortunately, feature a co-op mode. This was made clear during Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct that was held on June 18, 2025. The Direct was approximately 15 minutes long and revealed multiple exciting features of the highly anticipated Donkey Kong title.

Donkey Kong Bananza: Co-op Mode Explained

Apart from the various transformations and characters from the game, another important element that was revealed during the Donkey Kong Direct was the co-op feature. The game will feature a two-player co-op mode. While one player will control Donkey Kong himself, the other one will play as Pauline.

Another important thing worth noting is that you do not need two separate copies of the game, which might come as a relief to many considering the game’s hefty price tag of $70. Moreover, even though the game itself is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title, you can still play it on your original Nintendo Switch using GameShare, as long as one of your friends owns a copy of the game on Switch 2.

To make things clear, the game supports both couch co-op and online co-op. One more feature to look out for and try is the new Game Chat option that is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Using this feature, you can screen share the game while being on a video call with your friends. The online co-op mode can be made much for fun using this feature.

Up to this point, there was a shortage of good first-party titles to play on Nintendo Switch 2. However, the release of Donkey Kong Bananza sure looks promising, marking the beginning of a strong line-up of Nintendo-exclusive titles for Switch 2.
